Thanks Paul. Considering their age they're in good condition, but I couldn't find any other markings. I'll get the magnifying glass out later and take another peek.

For one thing, take a look all over the binoculars, and I mean all over. There may be a mark, however insignificant that may give you a clue to maker, etc., a number or letter sequence. Secondly, no matter if you find a mark or not, take them to a REPUTABLE (Capitals only for emphasis) optical instrument dealer. They should be able to help you, or point you in the right direction. I have a pair of well-used binoculars (or field glasses, what's the difference?) that have been passed down to my mum. The inscription reads '1882 C G Bolton'. I can't find a manufacturer named Bolton, and nor do I know of anyone in my tree with that surname. One suggestion has been that it's actually 'C S Bolton', meaning Colour Sergeant, but frankly I doubt it. Any ideas on what I can do?
