Binoculars

I have a pair of well-used binoculars (or field glasses, what's the difference?) that have been passed down to my mum. The inscription reads '1882 C G Bolton'. I can't find a manufacturer named Bolton, and nor do I know of anyone in my tree with that surname. One suggestion has been that it's actually 'C S Bolton', meaning Colour Sergeant, but frankly I doubt it. Any ideas on what I can do? |

For one thing, take a look all over the binoculars, and I mean all over. There may be a mark, however insignificant that may give you a clue to maker, etc., a number or letter sequence. Secondly, no matter if you find a mark or not, take them to a REPUTABLE (Capitals only for emphasis) optical instrument dealer. They should be able to help you, or point you in the right direction. Thanks Paul. Considering their age they're in good condition, but I couldn't find any other markings. I'll get the magnifying glass out later and take another peek. |
