my favourite place name is Spital in the Street (Lincolnshire) Wardrobe is also a surname, 700 in IGI (Exact Spelling on), mostly lowland Scottish, with Yorkshire and London branches, including a line in St Andrew by the Wardrobe parish -- coincidence?

There is a Wyre Piddle near Evesham. Some years ago Worcestershire CC wanted to change the name but the residents wouldn't have it. Good for them Bob

Ah, nothing like English place names for entertainment. Did you know there used to be a Gropec**t Lane too? It meant exactly the same thing then as it does now, so I presume the Taste and Decency Crew had it changed!

Whilst searching for a relative I came across this in the IGI. I wonder if the Lion and Witch were there too. Charles Ferguson Christening: 09 JUN 1811 St Andrew By The Wardrobe, London, London, England Another reason to double check???
