I uploaded a gedcom to gencircles and I very disappointed. There were some smartmatches, some I was aware of anyway. But, there was at least 3 names that were matched just because they were the same name, no other connection. I had Cox family in Ashby de la Zouch, Leicestershire and they were matched with people of the same name in Scotland. Now, wheres the connection in that. Margaret

I uploded an updated file onto Gencircles at the weekend. The smartmatches didn't appear until yesterday which was longer than it took the first time - one day last time. Give it a couple days. It would be such a shame if people lost interest due to the frustration of difficulties in uploading. The more people that put their trees on the site, the more successful it will be. Jackie

No, just checked. It is just the same. I have uploaded another file just to see what happens! Regards Simon in Munich

Have they fixed the problem yet, Simon?

Linda This is the follow up reply I have had from Gencircles, which I received late on Monday 9th Feb. As of today, there are still no smart matches showing on any of the 3 versions of the file which have been uploaded, one of which was done on 20th Jan. "I sincerely apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced with our web site. Due to a major upgrade that was installed on our servers, some of our users have not had their files processed correctly. The upgrade has been completed successfully and our servers are fully operational. We are currently re-processing certain affected user files published on the GenCircles web site. I can assure you that our team is working as quickly as possible to process your file and SmartMatches. Thank you for your patience in regards to this matter. Please feel free to contact us with any further questions, or comments." The Smart Matches facility is the main thing going for Gencircles, so I hope they sort it out soon, otherwise I will not be bothering with it. Regards Simon in Munich

Simon I hope GenCircles are working on this... someone contacted me recently and we discovered we were both tracing the same family. I encouraged her to upload her Tree to GenCircles, which I believe she has done, but as yet no additional matches are showing up... However, I'd STILL like to encourage everyone to use the site!!

I will plug away too! I must say that whilst I am very impressed with Tribal Pages I am not so far with GenCircles. I'm having some problems with seeing the list of SmartMatches. When I click on the link to "view smartmatches", all I get is a blank page. I know there are some smartmatches as the ícon appears next to some names but that's as far as I go. I have raised a question to GenCircles, but it is not yet resolved. They have sugeested I upload the file again, which I have done now twice with the same problem. Has anybody else had this problem? Regards Simon in Munich

Both TribalPages and GenCircles are excellent. Both are extremely easy to use... if you haven't already uploaded your GEDCOM to them, please consider yourself encouraged to do so!! They really are worth linking up with. GenCircles SmartMatches are brilliant - and I keep getting emails congratulating me on all the hard work I've obviously put into producing my TribalPages website (which was produced, literally, at the press of a button!!! Russell, I purchased Legends - but decided I preferred Family Historian, which I already use, so have since received a refund.

I have noticed that gencircles is a bit hit and miss re getting onto the site over the last few days. Has anybody else noticed this?

Hello Susie, if you just go to the basic url without all the slashes and type in rvrord in the user ID box, it should work.

Malcolm Your file does seem large for that number of names. There are sites on TB with more names than yours but perhaps they have lowered the limit recently Bob

That is some tree Malcolm! How long have you been researching? Is it the number of family members which makes it so huge or extensive notes? Perhaps if you emailed those at tribal pages, they may be able to accommodate your tree.

Malcolm, the 2MB is for the GEDCOM, you get an extra 15MB for photos! Gencircles is also excellent and well worth plugging again.
