Does any one know where I can go from here? I have found 2 names in the family bible which has been handed down. Emily Windel 18th Dec 1886 Harriet Windel 7th April 1888 Both born in Hull, We have not been able to link them to the family, is this a common thing, passing family bibles to different families. I have found them on 1837oneline, but have got not further; it’s driving me mad now. Any one got any ideas I live in Scotland, so unable to look for them locally.

It looks as thought they are sisters. Could they have been the daughters of a servant working for the family.

Have you tried the 1901 census to find out who their parents were?

Have you found them on the 1891 and 1901 censuses. If you could find out who they were living with it may give you a link to your family Jeanette x

Hi Ema You can ask for an 1891 look up on the records office board. The 1901 census is at www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk It is a pay per view site but looks as though it could be worth it as there seems to be quite Windles in Hull. But again if you ask on the records office board someone may have the decoder and could find out who else is in the household for you If you need further help just ask Jeanette x

Hi I have had a look for Windel ??? There seems lots of name variations which could thow you out "Windle" "Windal" in 1891 and 1901 census!! How certain are you of birth place etc is there a district/parish in Hull mentioned?? Found a Harriet and Emily in 1901 living in Lancs born Hull but both in their mid late 30's under Windle??. Rgrds Dave :-)

Judith

Judith Report 29 Oct 2004 14:53

On the 1891 census for Kingston on Hull There are John Windle, 28 dockside labourer, Emily Windle 26 and Emily Windle aged 4 living at No 1 Engine Place Alfred St. All born Hull. No sign of Harriet so perhaps she died as a baby.

Ema Was Emily not living with her parents in 1901? Looks like Judith found her with her parents in 1891. If you have any credits left for 1901 see if you can find John and his wife and see if they have any other children with them. I think your next step would be to look for the marriage of John and Emily to see what her maiden name was. This could be the link to your family Jeanette x

}((((*> Jeanette The Haddock <*)))){ Report 29 Oct 2004 16:22

Woohoo! Well done Ema I'm assuming you found that on the 1837 site. On Freebmd there is an entry for John Windle marrying in the Dec quarter 1885 in Hull to either Emily Ann Fox or Caroline Isabel Jackson. You can check this on 1837 by looking for Emily Fox in the same quarter and year. She should have the same reference number as John. Now then, Does the name Fox ring any bells? Jeanette x

Well that is strange Ema. I found it on Freebmd and as Robin said it is defintely on YorkshireBMD. If you want to order the cert I would do it through YorkshireBMD. (I'm a bit biased cos I transcribe for them! lol) Does Emilys maiden name of Fox fit in with your family tree so far? Jeanette x
