I have just sent off at no cost to myself-apart from the £1.79 postage a DNA sample to a genetic based geneaology lab. I will not get the results but with my four-generation chart they will try to map my DNA with others with same/similiar names, locations. Do any of my names connect elsewhere?Am i more Celtic or Nordic.?Where do my roots originate? On paper I am 100% Scottish but go back two generations& I find some Irish. Both sides claim that they had a spanish sailor in their tree.??? Who knows but I am hoping that research will prove that we are all the same under the skin!

This is a fascinating thread. I think it is interesting that my father has what is commonly known as the Viking Disease (Dupytren's Constricture) which is an uncommon condition affecting the tendons in the hand. His ancestors were from around the Wash in East Anglia and in that area my maiden name of Wicks is thought to have been from the same root as the Vik in Viking. It is also true that likenesses seem to be strong sometimes and pop up in distant relations. I discovered to my surprise some years back that my friend and neighbour is my half third cousin. One day when my daughter was round playing with her kids my friend/cousin's father was visiting and was startled by how similar he said my daughter was to his sister as a child. He was really unnerved by meeting her on the stairs unexpectedly. Sue
