Could someone help me find a death certificate for Isable Clark - who in 1901 was 7 months old, she then apparently died in a fire - her nightly caught fire. In 1901 she was in Newcastle with her parents. James Clark and Annie Clark. Where would I look?

Your first port of call would be FreeBMD. If it's not there, then you could ask for an 1837online or familyrelatives look-up if you know the year (or buy credits and look it up yourself, if you're less sure of the date). You will then have the GRO reference, which can be used to purchase the certificate from http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ Alternatively, if you know the register office where her death was registered, you could apply directly to them. They would not need to know the GRO reference; just the name and date.

Thank you so much for all this info. I just don't know how to choose the right one.. I suppose I need to know wherre they were after 1901... I know that the mother died in 1911 in southampton... and the father was James Clark. Can you give me a clue as to how I look further? Annie

This was the info re where they were lodging: Margery Allan Gateshead, Durham, England Head St Andrew Northumberland Thomas Allan 25 Newcastle Upon Tyne Son St Andrew Northumberland Annie Clark Southampton, Hampshire, England Boarder St Andrew Northumberland Isable Clark Southampton Boarder St Andrew Northumberland James Clark 32 Scotland Boarder St Andrew Northumberland Annie's age is given as 23 and both James' and Annie's occupations are given as Music Hall artistes. They were living in Newcastle

No, it does not mean she died in June - it means her death was registered in the April-May-June quarter. She could have died in any of those three months, or even in March. I gave you the website in my earlier post which explains how to get the certificate. Go for the death registered closest to where they were in 1901; ignore the information you have for the mother in 1911 for the time being.

Annie Houghton le Spring is as near to Newcastle as is Morpeth. Do you know of any reason why they moved out of town before the death took place? I'd be inclined to look into a later year. Gateshead in 1902 is much closer to Newcastle. You haven't given us any evidence that she died in any particular year before 1911, so why fix on 1901? Regards Stan

Hi Stan, I chose this one as they were in newcastle upon tyne and Isable wa 7 months old so she couldn't have been the one that said 0 age on death. I have ordered her death certificate. Best, Annie

Annie The Isabel Clark whose death is reported in Morpeth could be the one who was 10 months old in the 1901 Census (31 Mar 1901, with parents James and Margaret Clark at Hedley Wood Farm, Bigges Quarter, Long Horsley, which was in the Morpeth Registration District. So you may be disappointed if you have sent for a death record for Morpeth. The Isable Clark from Southampton, at 27 Terrace Place, St Andrew, Newcastle upon Tyne, with parents James and Annie, was indeed 7 months old at the date of the Census. The purpose of my earlier question was to ask how you knew she was 7 months old when she died. Do you even know for certain that she died before she was 1, or even that she died anywhere in North East England? Clearly unless she died before the end of April she cannot have been 7 months old at her death. Good luck in your search. Regards Stan
