Thanks for that Nicky, I hadnt thought of that. After all, it was the 2nd April when I read them as I was out all day on the 1st April. We are half a day ahead of England.
Huia in New Zealand.

I do not fully understand the problem.
The early records which use Roman numerals have all been transcribed by Freebmd and converted to Arabic.
However google will give several converters.

Do they still put Roman Numerals as dates on films when they were made? I always try to read when they were made but usually could never work them out quick enough from the credits.

Notice the date on the 3 new threads........ is someone having an April Fool?

David,

10,000 in roman numerals would be X with a bar over top. The bar means 'times one thousand'.

What are these last 3 postings about? I was looking at the thread on Roman numerals and came to p2, which is where I now am, but it seems to have changed topic. I cant see any sites listed by Karen on p1. Is there a gremlin in the works?
Huia.

I remember the freezing milk in the winter. It usually warmed up by the afternoon - I had 19 bottles one day!

Lisa, if that is an actual reference, then it should be written as iv, because that IS the ref., using 4 is wrong.(in that instance) Bob

Absolutely right, David. Adding up long lists of roman numerals is a complete nightmare. Worryingly, there are some taxation lists which do not add up at all. I've often wondered whether it was incompetence or a con!

David

David Report 31 Mar 2005 21:36

It must have been difficult adding up and doing accounts. But I suppose they had a system? David

I suppose it doesn't matter really, i mean I means 1 so IIII is 4, the quicker way of writing it is just IV in this case is what lisa has seen; but either way it means the number 4! LMP :)

Thankyou everyone for your help, feeling a bit silly for not knowing but my brain is just on a go slow with these sort of things!

Brian Ive only saw IIII as four on a clock face with roman numerals.
