Hi there I am trying to find my great Grandmother - Jean Maud Maslen. She would have been born around about 1895 ish and her son thinks this was in Woolwich. I can not find her anywhere - on any site whatsoever. I have tried - Ancestry, this site, family relatives, 1837online, Free BMDs, Family History Online, LDS.... and the rest! My Grandad says she had brothers and sisters called Percy, Sidney, Hilda, Rose and Daisy. Ring any bells with anyone?? I found a Jane Maslen with brothers and siters that sort of matched but my Grandad's birth cert has her down as Jean Maud not Jane!! She married John Alexander Wicks in Canada but then came back to England and had my Grandad in 1919. Apparently she dies around 1963 in Southend hospital. Hope someone can help! Kate

Kate, You have the same request on the Records Office Board. You might want to remove one so that people's efforts aren't duplicated. There's nothing more infuriating than spending time on a lookup, only to discover that answer was already given on the other board. Crista

Thanks I was being a bit cheeky really - it's not a duplicate from the Records Office - it is a duplicate from last night on this board! I wanted to bring it back up front again as so many threads have gone by since and my replies dried up! I appreciated your help last night! Thanks Kate

If she was a Jane Sarah Maslen and not a Jean then would she have written Jean Maud Maslen on her son's birth certificate? Is that normal? Kate

The Bag

The Bag Report 21 Apr 2005 09:35

What does it say on her marriage certificate/ death certificate> what name did she give then? Jess

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 21 Apr 2005 09:41

You see - thats just it - I can't find her at all as Jean Maud Maslen - so have no birth, marriage or death cert! Kate

The Bag

The Bag Report 21 Apr 2005 09:43

so you ned to trace the marriage of a john Wicks and a Maslen in canada. someone must know when

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 21 Apr 2005 09:44

Also, can't find her death as Jean Wicks or Jane Wicks. Can't find either marriage in Canada though I am sure there are unexhausted routes there! Kate

The Bag

The Bag Report 21 Apr 2005 09:45

Or trace her death here... 1837 , trawl the name Wicks in the right place and the right time.

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 21 Apr 2005 09:46

I guessed that she must have got married before my Grandad was born in 1919 but can not find any record of this at all. However, there is missing data on the Ontario Vernon - between 1911 and 1921 - isn't that convenient? Tried the Vernon in British Columbia and no trace there. Kate

Done the death search Jess! No signs! Kate

have you made contact with the other Maslem's on this site? there are other people with the name , born in london 1900's . must surely be connected with a name like that.

Hold off until you hear back then. 'not yet...' by the following morning is a bit of an expectation!

Was John Wicks a Canadian or had he gone over there from UK? Just that I found this birth, the only one on FreeBMD with the exact name and round about possible age to have married Miss Maslen. Name: WICKS, John Alexander Record Type: Births Quarter: March Year: 1887 District: East Preston County: Sussex Volume: 2b Page: 34[2_]

Hi Kate - did you pursue the Electoral Roll angle we talked about ? Sorry those Canadian sites didnt bear fruit. Kind regards, LD

Kathryn

Kathryn Report 21 Apr 2005 11:34

Laird - nice to hear from you! No - I haven't yet - are electoral rolls online then? - I assumed I would have to visit Woolwich to get access, which is why I didn't do it!! How you doing anyway? E-mail and let me know! Kate

Helen As far as my family are aware he was English and in particular - came from London area! Though, this is not conclusive! I suppose it is possible that the John Alexander Wicks you came up with is him - but I don't know how I would be able to tell unless I can find his marriage and I can not find a marriage for this man to a Jean or Jane Maslen!! Is there any other way you can think of that I can connect him to my Grandad other than the info I have on my Grandad's birth cert, which does not tell me where he originated! Kate
