There is a Jematte Askey Smith on the 1871 census in Leeds. Wonder if it could be a relative? Her mother was Elizabeth from Scotland. Wonder if it was Elizabeth's maiden name, as they tend to do that in Scotland. (I think the Jematte could be Janette). Kath. x |

There is this birth on Ancestry:- Name: SMITH, Emma Record Type: Births Quarter: September Year: 1838 District: Dewsbury County: West Riding of Yorkshire Volume: 22 Page: 40 Looks about the right time. Kath. x |

Thanks Kath. I think you're right abut her name - she's Janette on the other censuses too. I guess I'll never really know. I'm not researching Emmas line as she's not a blood relation. Shame we can't travel back in time and ask them! |
