I was wondering if there was any way of finding a census ref from an address. I have lost some rellies in 1901! They seem to have lived in Provost St, Shoreditch on the 1881/1891 censuses so perhaps they are still there in 1901 but were missed out? Does anyone know where on the 1901 I can find Provost St? Thanks, Julia

You can do an address search on the National Archives 1901 census. Lesley

Hi Lesley & Tracy, Thanks for replying. The surname is TORRINGTON. I have Ancestry and have searched the parents and youngest children but with no luck. Their names are Marion c 1850, William c 1849, John Frederick & Percy Albert (twins 1885), Florence Jessie 1889, Louis Hubert 1891 & Ethel Rebecca 1894, all born in Shoreditch.

hi julia im still here looking what was his occupation i cant find his death so he must be there were the names mistranscribed in 1881 1891 ?? tracy

Julia

Julia Report 23 Aug 2005 21:32

Hi Tracy, Don't like to be beaten eh?! William was an Umbrella Frame Maker and in 1891 the name was mistranscribed as DORRINGTON. The only family members I've managed to find in 1901 ar their son Christopher Torrington, and daughter Evelina Powell who were married. That's not very good out of 11 surviving children is it! Julia
