I hope this is the appropriate place to put this! Questionnaire about Old Family Photos in Family History Research You are invited to complete a questionnaire which forms part of my dissertation research for my MSc in Information Management. I am interested in researching my own family history and particularly intrigued by the Victorian photo albums in our family. This has motivated me to find out more about the information needs and behaviours of family historians with special regard to old family photos (c.1840-c.1901). This questionnaire explores various aspects of the importance of old family photos to your family history research, questions about identifying and labelling old photos, and about storing both original and digital versions of these photos. To read more about the questionnaire and access it, please visit: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=rZN_2fhfPk0ITnVhluANR89g_3d_3d Thank you for any help you can give. Any questions can be addressed to me: Fiona Wilson MSc Information Management Student University of Sheffield, UK email: [email protected]

Fiona, are the web and email addresses complete? This site does not like giving such things unless you replace things with * or put brackets around them. I have a lot of very old photos and am interested in helping (but not today, going out all day). I am in New Zealand. I will PM you.

I see the problem! I will email you both with the link of the survey in full. For anyone else who wishes to have a look, please email me using my address which should come up if you click my name (I think!) and I will send you the link in return. Thanks!

OK, if you reply via this messaging service, then you should be able to give your email. If you can't, please try sending a message to lip06fhw at sheffield .ac .uk (obviously remove the spaces and replace the at with the correct symbol) and I will reply with the URL. Hope that works. Fingers crossed! Thanks for trying, Fiona

There you go then Fiona, have pressed the 'done' button. Suggest you nudge this tomorrow in order to catch the daytime folks. Good luck with your dissertation. Kate :)

Thank you Fiona for this post, I did the survey on line - much easier than when I did my dissertation and had to post out paper copies, expecting people to fill them in and then remember to post them back. By completing the survey it focussed my mind on not only my photographic records but also the way I store and index all my records. If you haven't done the survey yet, go on - have a go - its easy. Thanks to those of you so far who have helped out with this by sorting out the address and in completing the survey. I need at least 150 replies, so if you are interested but haven't completed it yet, please do! If you are unsure about the dates of your photos (I have specified that my interest is in those dating from c.1840s to c.1901), please complete the survey considering those studio portraits in black and white that you know are not recent snapshots. That will be fine! All help is appreciated. Fiona P.S. Can someone explain the nudging thing on these posts? Is it to keep messages nearer the top of the posting list? I noticed it on a few threads. Thanks!

Yes, Fiona, this will put your thread to the top. It is in effect a nudge.
