It certainly seems like the right lot doesnt it especially with Mary absent in two census but turning up right age again in 71. I guess little Ann died between census. I wouldnt worry about the age difference in the 1841/51 as I have a Mary Ann aged 8 in 41, 12 in 51 and 2 years later aged 20 when she married - and definitely the right girl. What a dilemma.

Thanks everyone. Just nipped away to watch Hollyoaks and came back to all your replies. I have bought several death certificates before I found her in 1861 so I'm reluctant to buy any more until I'm certain. (I really though I had her with the Dec 1872 cert). I have another relly who remarried at age 60 so it's definately a possiblility. Hmm, which cert to order next? Guess I need to find a Matilda Taylor or Austin in 1881 to see if her age fits. Thanks Lyla

lyla. matilda age35 in 1841 then only 40 in 1851, 6 years gone somewhere. 1861 51 ok, 1871 61 ok probably 1881 should be 71. The only death I can find for Matilda is 1880 Surrey LONDON age 67. Taking into account the age difference in 1841 and 1851 (6 yrs) could this be her? March qtr 1880 2A 162. TED

Lyla, hi. your pushing it a bit looking for Matilda on the 1881 census. She was 61 in 1871, that would her 71 in 1881. Even money she wasnt alive in 1881. Sorry but its true. TED.

I would be eternally grateful for a second opinion on this. The 1841 and 1851 people are definately my family. Do you think the Matilda in 1871 who is suddenly a greengrocer born in Bristol is the same woman? Her son Frederic (my gggrandfather) was a Plasterer living in Poplar in 1871 and her son Joseph is a plasterer in 1861. Can anyone find a badly mistranscribed version of Matilda in 1881? Thanks Lyla

For Starters, am I tracking the right Matilda as her place of birth changes? Can't find her husband's death either but son Fred married in 1858 and his dad was alive then (alledgedly). I've been through 1837online and can't find a likely death (1871-1881) except the wrong one Dec 1872 aged 63. Could somebody please check 1881 in case I have missed her. 1841 Eastfield street, Limehouse Fredk Wood 40 labourer Y Matilda 35 Y Louisa 10 Y Mary 8 Y Fredk 6 Y Matilda 3 Y Ann 1mth Y 1851 92 Eastfield St, Limehouse Frederic Wood 44 labourer Limehouse Matilda Wood 40 laundress Limehouse Frederic 15 Matilda 13 Elizabeth 10 Joseph 8 George 5 Eliza 2 1861 (transcribed Ward) 2 John St, Limehouse Matilda Wood 51 widow laundress born unreadable Matilda 22 laundress Limehouse Joseph 17 plasterer Limehouse George 14 scholar Limehouse Eliza 11 scholar Limehouse John 9 scholar Limehouse 1871 Knapp Road, Bromley St Leonard Matilda Wood 61 widow greengrocer born Bristol Mary daug unm 37 Middx Joseph 25 labourer Middx Eliza 22 Middx John 20 Middx
