Morning Guys Thank you all so much for your help yesterday. It might now give me something to go on!! lol or is that wishful thinking?!? lol Robin, How did you know that Alice A Fyles was mis-transcribed as Hyles??? You clever thing you!! Tracy I have looked on Yorkshire BMD before for Mary Fyles (nee Holgate) And the only one I can find is 5 years older than the census's. Also just had another look now and there are 2 more but 10 years earlier!! lol Thanks again anyway - much appreciated. Manda xx :-)

So, the Mary that Robin found is probably nee Holgate. Which means Henry was probably at sea for that census as well lol YorkshireBMD is good for Leeds. She should (hopefully) show up on there. Mary and Henry must've married between 1881 and 1891.

I think I found him in 1881.... Henry Fyler abt 1819 Lydiate Head (Barge Captain) William Forshaw abt 1872 Liverpool Grandson John Ashcroft abt 1823 Burscough Mate Elizabeth Ashcroft abt 1821 Essex, England Mates Wife Canal Boats Saturn, Lathom, Lancashire, England

Montmorency

Montmorency Report 27 Sep 2005 17:07

1891 - mistranscribed as Alice A Hyles. Still at Farnhill. Mary age 43 born Chapeltown Leeds on a second look, it's a bit odd. Head is the old man, Henry Snr, Widower age 72. No Henry Jnr. Mary is described as Wife, crossed out. Alice is Daughter, but presumably intended to mean Mary's not Henry's

Bernice - I know!!! lol!! Nightmare - I've got cousins all over the place marrying each other!! lol I done ok on the Holgate's, from my granddad backwards (ie: Herbert Mawson Holgate) But I haven't been able to find where Mary Holgate (Alice's mother) comes in! I know they were cousins of sorts, but how (yet!) I've no idea! Manda x :-)

Manda

Manda Report 27 Sep 2005 15:59

Oh I see Tracey - Didn't know that! thanks anyway. Guys, I think I may have found her Grandfather on the 1871 census! Don't ask me how, if I can't find her mother and father!! lol From the little info that my mum gave me, Alice Ann's grandfather was also called Henry Fyles born 1819c - a boatman from Lancashire. Apparently they/he came up to Leeds/Liverpool canal to Bradford/skipton area. On the 1871 Census I have found Henry Fyles, from Lancashire, living on the Leeds/Liverpool Canal on a boat!! Right age too. So fingers cross that is correct, but it still leaves me stuck on Henry Fyles and Mary Holgate (Alice's mother and father) Manda x :-)
