I think that could well be her brother, as in 1861 this was the only sensibly Lucy I can find and her brother fits! on the piece of paper they send with the certs its writen in in pencil that its a copy from christ church not sure what this means the marriage cert is from original film but birth cert is an up todate copy on paper that birth certs are registered on these days if that makes any sence angie xx

frederick was a window cleaner i know this is my frederick as i have records of him dying in the great war in 1915 and it said his wife was ada and the address was correct.he doesnt have a grave but is on the memorial at the meni gate hugs angie

I realise RODDS is the sort of name that might easily be subject to mistranscription, but even so, I was surprised to see there are 21 Rodds on the Nat Archives 1901 census and only 5 on Ancestry 1901!!! Merry

thank you all for your tips the marriage was in a registry office as i think she was pregnant with sydney frederick rodds as he was born and died the same year they were married 1910 we never did find a death for edwin or lucy but as you say they probly lived after 1920 when i get some credits on 1837 will look for both deaths shouldnt be to hard to find with such unusuall names i still have thread with all the details every one has helped me with and im in your debt for eternity lol hugs angie xx

Here's a possible scenario. The person registering the birth was asked the question Father's name? and replied with the name of their own father, Edwin, and the registrar added Rodd himself Beth :)

For those who haven't seen the other threads, here is Fred and parents in 1881: Edwin RODDS Head M Male 22 Islington Baker Lucy Hardman RODDS Wife M Female 21 Morsley Birmingham Frederick RODDS Son Male 3 m Leicester, England living at Kettering, Northamptonshire. Edwin is a Baker. Lucy and Edwin married in 1880 in Birmingham. They don't seem to have had any more children after Fred (no Birth reg's) After the above, they vanish, until Fred gets married. I've just realised that although I got all the births and marriage entries 1866-1920, I only looked for the specific names for his parents deaths, so..........I just checked Family Relatives, but there are five matches for Rodds with any first name. As there are five matches on FreeBMD, I'm assuming they are the same five........ Angie - is the marriage certificate a photocopy / print of the original, or is it a copied-out one? If it has been copied out at least once, it could be that somebody copied the father's name out wrong. If it was a church wedding, perhaps you can get a look at the original parish register to see what it says in there; if a register office wedding, you may be able to get a copy of the original from the register office to check what it says. But also he may just have given the wrong name or it was written down wrong in the first place. Kate.

Hi Dancer! The Rodds is a LONG saga.....there are very few GRO refs for the name at all between 1866 and 1920 (from Family Relatives) and none for either of Fred jr's parents (though they may have lived longer, of course). Angela has all the GRO stuff on another thread. Also none of them appear on a census after 1881!! Merry

There was no such thing a adoption, as we know it, until 1927. I should think his parents are those on the birth cert and he just made a mistake on his marriage cert, or he misunderstood what he was being asked, or a hundred-and-one other possiblilities. Don't forget, people were far more in awe of authority in those days than today - if Frederick realised a mistake had been made on the marriage cert, even at the time, he may have been too embarrassed to say anything (esp if the vicar was the one making the error!!) So, in 1881 we have the right census family....but that are missing after that?? Right?? Merry
