Joy *The Carlos Cutie of Ilson* Report 5 Nov 2005 22:11

Julie O'Brien I had my first child when I wasn't married to her father. They said that she would be registered in my surname and his so if she wanted to use my surname when she was older she could get a birth certificate in that name. Also told me that if we wanted to change it, hubby would have to legally adopt her. Hoy

Any relatively recent ones on the normal FreeBMD search on ancestry (i.e. before 1984) will be ones that people have added to FreeBMD from their own research, rather than by transcribing batches allocated to them by FreeBMD, but don't panic, it is nothing like when people add their own stuff to the IGI! It has to be what they got from the GRO indexes. For example, if somebody is doing a one-name study they can send all the entries they have extracted in. But they are not allowed to do it if they got the information from a site such as 1837 online in the first place, only if it was from the Family Records Office or another records office or something like that.

The recent ones have been on for a while. Try looking for some of your ancestors on there that were born late 1890s or early 1900s, you might find their deaths and if you are lucky it will give you their dates of births. Found some of mine on there. Maggy

Maureen Naomi has been around since Biblical times, though I think it is more subject to fashion than some others. nell
