Cannot Find a Will - any ideas please!

Gibon died before the Married Women's Property Act came into force, so Fanny's property would automatically have become her husband's. I would imagine that Gibon took care to dispose of his property in his lifetime, eg annuities to the daughters, funds to set sons up in business so far as he was able. This would avoid death duties. It was probably some time after his death that a savings account or other minor property was discovered. It may even have been left deliberately for a while, so that nobody queried why the administration wasn't for a larger sum. |

Could well be that Fanny inherited some money from somebody else after her husband's death, though. Kate. |

Hi Abbess, Yes that would make sense! The eldest son Gibon doesn't seem to have come out with much if anything at all! I'll apply for the wills & see if I can find out more. Gillian |

Hi Kate, Fanny did inherit some money but before Gibon's death. Gibon's brother Charles' will written in 1855 & proved in 1856 was a bit strange as he mentioned that his bequest to his brother Gibon 'shall be paid into the hands of his wife Fanny Rammell...' I wonder if Gibon was already ill and Fanny was looking after everything. Gillian |
