I think you need to check the FreeBMD coverage charts and check the missing quarters as previously mentioned in my earlier message........Can't find Martha in 1861..... Merry

Parents were married in 1843 in Manchester.

Could it be that the enumerator simply put in one ditto mark too many? Perhaps whoever copied the original to the sheet we see put in too many dittos.................. If you follow my drift............. I would say that the Mary Elizabeth Jess found for 1848 is the Mary on the census Rose

Does your relly know that Martha died young too? Otherwise maybe she is with somebody else on the 1861, but I must go to bed now and so can't look her up! Night night. Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 12 Nov 2005 23:38

Oh, right, well, forget that idea then. The census enumerator just got the birthplaces in a muddle. Kate.

Kate

Kate Report 12 Nov 2005 23:37

My immediate thought is that Martha is the head of household's step-daughter and Elizabeth his full daughter, and he has only recently married Martha's mother? If your relly could find Martha's birth cert it would help to prove or disprove that because it would have her surname on it. Kate.

Jess Yes that's what I mean. Meant Birth Certificates in prior message. He has both Elizabeth's and Martha's though he can't remember off-hand the date, he's in his 80 and his wife has just passed away so I'm trying not to bother him too much at the mo. Don't know what's up with 1851 giving different places of birth for the twins. He does know for certain that Elizabeth died in 1851. Joy

The Bag Report 12 Nov 2005 23:10

Do you mean the one that is with the family in 1851 census dies in bermondsey was martha's twin? Hang on a moment - how can one be born in watford and the other macclesfield and them be twins...on the image they are both aged 11 months but clearly states martha WAS born in watford Bizzare!!

Jess Family member has Birth Certificate (really old one, possibly the original). He can't find it at the minute as he had just moved to Spain and everything is topsy-turvy. Joy
