You might be better going through the local register office as they can sometimes be more helpful that the GRO which will more likely to stick to the rules. Also the local files are slightly different from the national copies sometimes. I have had some offices EMail me with possible alternatives for a match and usually they will usually not charge if not found. Of course if you believe last week's TV programme you just go to the counter and ask for the certificate! MB

Just to clarify folks.. to put a happy end to this ... Alice located the mistranscribed 1901 census entry...ie the family name was transcribed BONN not BENN. The family she lists in her entry timed at 21:33 details the family composition as i understood it to be from relatives etc...ie Amos, Joe, Violet. Ive now working to put more meat on the bones, but this was the break i needed! Thanks again Roger

Neither of those references relate to a Frederick Benn. I have searched for him and the only one I can find married in Cannock - way outside you area, and not to your Elizabeth. I wouldn't order from those references at this time. Dea x

Questions! 1) Have you found the couple on the 1901 census?? If yes, can you post the details? 2) What was the birth reg for the child born in 1901? 3) Have you got the 1901 cert and if you have, what was the address for the birth and the date? Merry

Roger Report 12 Jan 2006 18:36

Thanks The details i have are as follows: Elizabeth Hextall married Frederick Benn. Based on the birth on one of their children was born in 1901 and at this time they were married . Not knowing the year of the marriage i have researched in the registers back to 1885 for an Elizabeth Hextall getting married: There are two listed: Elizabeth Hextall married listed inthe Apr, May, June 1897 register. This Elizabeth was married in Market Bosworth (the right area) and the reference is 7 a 193 The other Elizabeht Hextall married listed in the Jan, Feb, Mar 1899 register. This Elizabeth was married in Ashby Z (again the right area) and the reference is 7 a 143. I have checked the corresponding books for Frederick Benn but there appears to be no match. Should i just purchase copies of the certificates to confirm/disprove or Can anyone help? Thanks
