I should think that's because the census enumerator was reading the householders writing and had never heard the name before! The reg for William Oswald is the only one with middle initial ''O''. Merry |

enumerators had to read a lot of bad writing and they only had a small sample of each to go on. There's a way of writing a G that could be taken as an S For the other one there's an Enis of the right age in the BMDs, though I'm having more trouble seeing how that could be miswritten and misread as, well, whatever it is |

Think I might have found the answer to the daughter's name. Florence Priscilla (Florrie) Oswestry 1892 1st quarter. Is it a coincidence that my mother was also called Florence? Joan |
