Hi Catherine According to the 1881 census his birth year was 1869 - but when searching for birth entries, I always go a year either side of census years, as they are usually slightly out a bit. Found those two on the BMDs on Ancestry. Regards, Leah Ps - Yes, when ordering a cert you can put a reference check on it - e.g. if you put his father's name down - that way, if it is the wrong person you will get a refund of some of your money (I think you get a £3 or £4 refund). Better than losing the whole £7 I suppose.

Conway covers Llandudno. I found it on the Freebmd site. Ancestry's dobs are very misleading. All it would mean was that he was 4 in 1871, when the census was taken. Yes, you should get mother's maiden name and yes you can put in checking points, though be very sparing. If the father's name was say Frederick William Brown, known as William, asking for a check on William Brown would deprive you of the right certificate.

I can´t find anything else at the moment that is going to help but I if I was you I would get the Archibald Brown birth certificate in the hope that its the right family. The registration district certainly seems to tie in with the info in the 1881 census.

Thankyou to everyone that replied to my message. I'm sat here feeling very emotional, that maybe I can finally get somewhere. Yvvone who is going to Kew next week has even offered to look up my great grandads records. I'm totally gob smacked at the help and kind words everyone has given. My husband and children will be home soon to find a mother in a state of total tears. But they are happy ones. Thank you everyone xxxxxxx
