Following on from Carrie's post for the 1871 census, here is John and Sarah in 1881.....note his occupation!! John WRIGHT Head M Male 50 Malpas, Cheshire, England ***Carter*** Sarah WRIGHT Wife M Female 49 Bristol, Somerset, England Thomas WRIGHT Son U Male 14 Liverpool, Lancashire, England John WRIGHT Son U Male 9 Liverpool, Lancashire, England Agnes WRIGHT Daur U Female 18 m Liverpool, Lancashire, England It's good that John and Sarah are born in quite different places, as this makes tham much easier to pick out on each census! Janet At the end of the day all you can do is send for certificates in the time period and correct area referencing the fathers name must be John, you may be lucky and only come up with just the one? don't order them online actually call them, as online they that take No notice of the referencing but still charge the price of it, in my experience anyway. I do think the mother is Sarah though as its the only family with Father with the name john and children with names of Elizabeth and william.

Thanks for that Merry. If I look for a marriage between the Head & Wife in each household I may find the wifes maiden name could be Cranmer (am I right?) In the 2nd family there is a Sarah Ann (Wife) who would be Elizabeths mother could she have been witness at her daughters marriage. How likely is this

Merry Yes these have been on the board before. When I first started this family tree lark I naively thought I would type in relatives name and up would pop DOB, DOD, MARRIAGE, & CHILDREN (how stupid of me). It wasn't quite that easy. So put the Wright side to bed and concentrated on my other names. They have been quite easy to trace and I have managed to do quite abit. Have now decided to return to WRIGHT and see if I can break down the brickwall.

Place of birth is Liverpool definately. Father - John (a Carter) Witness to marriage - William Wright, Sarah Ann Wright. Married 5/Feb/1882. Thomas father - Michael Lunt (illegitimate)?????? Thomas born c1851. The problem I'm having - I find a family with the correct surname and dob for Elizabeth, when I check she has siblings of various names and always a Thomas with dob as 1851 so how do I know if this is her family as it could quite easily be Thomas' family also. HELP!!!

Merry

Merry Report 7 Feb 2006 12:20

Maybe Cranmer was her mum's maiden surname? (or another relations?? LOL) I had a quick look for John Wright marrying a Cranmer, with no joy, on the IGI or in Lancashire area on FreeBMD. Nothing appeared easily (well, at all!!)....but not all years I would have checked are available on FreeBMD. Merry

Thanks for all your help. As far as I know all my rellies come from Liverpool, so don't think thats her. Will just keep trying Unfortunately I don't know if she had any siblings. I only have an uncle (her Grandson) left to ask any info, he is due a visit soon so will bombard him with questions. Her fathers name was John and there are a few matches with this in the appropriate birth year and area, just need to narrow it down

can you find her (or her father) in the 1861/71 censuses? Did she have brothers and sisters, and if so can you find births for them?

Lou In Wigan

Lou In Wigan Report 7 Feb 2006 12:06

Hi, Was she born around the Great Broughton area? As there is a Elizabeth Graham Wright - Great Broughton - 1858 J/F/M Quater. I have checked all births 1856\57\58 and that is the nearest. If the family could not spell and just told the registrar they may have put it down how they felt it should have been spelt? Regards - Louise
