My Gt Grandmother is Elizabeth Cranmer Wright (maiden name). Would this full name show on the birth cert? I have a marriage cert for her which shows full name but can't find a birth ref. using the full name, I have tried just Elizabeth Wright but get quite a few results.

Well, in theory her name should be the same on both, but if she is one of those awkward people who gave themselves a middle name some time during their life, it wouldn't be on her birth cert. Where have you searched for her birth registration? Kate.

What year is it and where are you looking? If you are using familyrelatives.org then you can only enter one first name or they give you zero results. Took me ages to realise that. The name is a surname - so it may be it was added in respect of a relative or godparent later on.

Hi, My Great gran was know as Lottie May Rachel Davies but on the original there was no Rachel when I got the birth certificate there was a coloumn at the end that had the Rachel listed under name added after registration. I think its because her aunt died and they went back and added it in respect of her. So it could be possible she was not listed with the middle name originally. The other possible is that say I was looking for mine in Wigan they are sometimes listed as where the office was say Ince district. Have you tried the ancestry bmd? Regards - Louise

The name on her headstone reads - Elizabeth Cranmer Wright/Kelly. Some kind person on GR found her first marriage for me to Thomas Wright. So I sent for marriage cert which says Elizabeth Cranmer Wright (spinster) so a wright married a wright!! Kelly was 2nd marriage in 1904. I have tried - Elizabeth Cranmer (no luck) Elizabeth Cranmer Wright (no luck) Elizabeth Wright (quite a few) On marriage cert father is John (again quite a few results, but which one is mine). Tried Ancestry, 1837, and free BMD. She was born c1857 and died 18/Mar/1948

Hi, Was she born around the Great Broughton area? As there is a Elizabeth Graham Wright - Great Broughton - 1858 J/F/M Quater. I have checked all births 1856\57\58 and that is the nearest. If the family could not spell and just told the registrar they may have put it down how they felt it should have been spelt? Regards - Louise

can you find her (or her father) in the 1861/71 censuses? Did she have brothers and sisters, and if so can you find births for them?

Thanks for all your help. As far as I know all my rellies come from Liverpool, so don't think thats her. Will just keep trying Unfortunately I don't know if she had any siblings. I only have an uncle (her Grandson) left to ask any info, he is due a visit soon so will bombard him with questions. Her fathers name was John and there are a few matches with this in the appropriate birth year and area, just need to narrow it down

Maybe Cranmer was her mum's maiden surname? (or another relations?? LOL) I had a quick look for John Wright marrying a Cranmer, with no joy, on the IGI or in Lancashire area on FreeBMD. Nothing appeared easily (well, at all!!)....but not all years I would have checked are available on FreeBMD. Merry

We definitely need to find her in 1891 or 1901 with her children (presume one is your grandparent) to establish her place of birth. Merry

Janet

Janet Report 7 Feb 2006 12:37

Place of birth is Liverpool definately. Father - John (a Carter) Witness to marriage - William Wright, Sarah Ann Wright. Married 5/Feb/1882. Thomas father - Michael Lunt (illegitimate)?????? Thomas born c1851. The problem I'm having - I find a family with the correct surname and dob for Elizabeth, when I check she has siblings of various names and always a Thomas with dob as 1851 so how do I know if this is her family as it could quite easily be Thomas' family also. HELP!!!

Janet

Janet Report 7 Feb 2006 12:42

Merry Yes these have been on the board before. When I first started this family tree lark I naively thought I would type in relatives name and up would pop DOB, DOD, MARRIAGE, & CHILDREN (how stupid of me). It wasn't quite that easy. So put the Wright side to bed and concentrated on my other names. They have been quite easy to trace and I have managed to do quite abit. Have now decided to return to WRIGHT and see if I can break down the brickwall.
