I know this should go on your thread on the General board but I haven't got time to go over there now as I'm off to bed... get him a Pay as You Go! Goodnight. Kate.

Oh goody. I'll start typing, then. Another tip - there are some WONDERFUL restaurants in Exmouth Market, just round the corner from FRC and LMA. The Turkish one is particularly good. (hic) And despite failing to come to grips with the microfilm printers and having my seat stolen by someone, I found one of my Skillings in Chelsea Workhouse (the settlement examination is about the only place where her birthplace is correct.) so it was an all round good day.

Oh blimey Brenda, that would be great. Yes, right area, Lambeth. I had a sneaking feeling his parents may be from Lincolnshire, though no facts. Thank goodness Im getting so many good things today, or Id go mad! I think I have to go to bed now folks, knackered and half a bottle of cheap wine down the throat. Still takes the pain off sons £844 mobile bill, eh> Thanks to everyone who have been so very helpful and kind today and apologies if you leave any messages after Im in land of nod. xxx

Hi Heather It was you who was looking for Alfords, wasn't it? I was at the LMA today - BIG TIP - DO NOT ATTEMPT RESEARCH ON A WDYTYA WEEKEND! - and I found a settlement examination for a John Alford in Lambeth. If this might be yours, I'll pm the details.

That is very kind of you, I have pmd you. But its the world deluxe Karen that the german passenger stuff is on - do you have that one? Brilliant if you can find him. Name is Christian Bauer, baker born Coblenz c1841. He married my ancestor Mary Ann Asbey Hanson in Stepney in 1871. Actually he seemed to get quite well off after this time, ended up living in a nice area of Essex with a servant for the family!

Yep - and I like your logic re saving all that money on the wine. Where do you reckon Finningsute West Smith is????? Other good news is my Kew researcher guy just mailed to say he had found hubbys GGF, sergeant in 1st Scots Guards and was mailing me the stuff. Bless, think Merry, thats saved me even more in fares to London, then across to Kew, lunch, evening meal etc. Oh thanks Book Lady for your input, only just seen it. Yes, I think we have this one sussed.

Got them, mistranscribed as Graves: Catherine E Graves abt 1836 St Margaret, Middlesex, England Daughter Shoreditch Middlesex Emma Graves abt 1839 Finningsute West Smith, Middlesex, England Daughter Shoreditch Middlesex George Graves abt 1843 St Margaret, Middlesex, England Son Shoreditch Middlesex John Graves abt 1847 Hucking, Middlesex, England Son Shoreditch Middlesex Mary Ann Graves abt 1805 St James, Middlesex, England Wife Shoreditch Middlesex Mary Ann Graves abt 1841 St George in the East, Surrey, England Daughter Shoreditch Middlesex Sarah Graves abt 1786 Romford, Essex, England Grandmother, Grandma Shoreditch Middlesex Thomas Graves abt 1804 Jigetstone, Essex, England Head Shoreditch Middlesex Thomas still shown as printer, lithographier, all the daughters and wife are crocheters - I think this must be the guy, I bet that should have read tablecloth stenciler. He probably printed the patterns on the tablecloths and sounds like the girls are all wearing out their fingers crocheting them! Oh, quite a good result then.

£844?? It's going to take a hell of a lot of half price wine to make that up.......you had better get drinking! Can't see that pesky Thomas in 1851 ........ Merry

Probably way off the mark but I wonder if they drew designs onto table cloths for others to then embroider. My parents have a number of old tablecloths which were embroidered and I seem to remember that some of them were quite elaborate.

And I just went over to General to moan about the £844 mobile phone bill 19 year old son got today. I think another glass of half price Tescos is called for Merry, or shall we make it a coffee cup full. Anyway can you see the lying about her age Mary Ann in 1851, I cant. In theory should be in Shoreditch.
