the lady jeanette above is onto something, the story i got from late aunt kathleen who was doing tree when she died, was that ,the gt,gt,grandfather was married to a lady from europe who,s familly owned a ship building company. there surname began with a W ,it may of been a french or dutch name. the 3rd gt grandfather was in royal navy and was related by a marrage to thomas masterman hardy. ive been told by my niece in zimbarbwe ,that thomas hardy was one of the 3rd gt granfathers on the female line. but ive got to confirm this myself . ,now my late aunt used to visit my area alot ,and so was supprised to find two people who knew her in my neck of woods one was my dads cousin margret johnson(nee gabb) and the other an Elizabeth vawser , elizabeth told me id find the family living in surrey in 1800,s she also said both her and my familly came from france in 1066, Elizabeth vawser ,knows her genology she has written a book on her family tree ,but she would not tell me much only that her aunt ellinor was a close friend of my aunt . dave

I'm sorry, but I must concede defeat on this. 1891 census........loads of Charles Wil(l)sons from Londonish area. No way to know which is THE ONE. 1881 census - several Charles who could be the one.....eliminated some because they have the wrong dad. Followed others forward....they all became someone else (if you see what I mean!) Marriage of Willson to Gilbert....there is one, but can't see how it can fit. (1913 Q2 Bessie Willson to Frederick Gilbert - I fact I think her name may be with one L because all the children of this marriage were reg mother's maiden name Wilson!) Can't find one for William H Willson to any Gilbert's. Can't search Wilson (one ''L'' to Gilbert because too expensive on Family Search and too big a task for FreeBMD) Maud will have been born after 1901 but before 1911 so cannot extract her birth. Maud will have died before 1983 so i cannot find her death without a surname. So I give up. Sorry............................. It's interesting that Maud was your dad's aunt but was younger than him. means William H Willson's second wife must have been a good deal younger. You say you think he was born in the 1830's.....if she had his child in about 1905 she must have been at least 30 years younger, if not more. Not saying it isn't possible (plenty of those on my tree!) but why can't I find anyone that fits?? - No marriage and no couple with wide age gap on 1901. Merry

hi monty ,the lady from whose tree he is on found them on such a search , i found his first wife on 1881 census but not his 2nd wife , but ive looked at her tree and both wives had children to him one severn and the other six , but no ref to charles which is odd seeing charles oct is born in london city ,you would of thought we would find him before 1901 census ,but if he educated abroad how young would he be when they sent him there? in those days. i will get there it toook me a year to find william , and my late aunt had the tree back to late 1700,s but thanks for your time on this monty you are very kind to do this for me and its appreciated , cheers for now dave willson

David, had you considered that Maud's father would be in his 70's by her birth date? Again not saying this isn't possible......just something that sometimes crops up in conversation...... Merry
