Thanks all for yesterday, thinking that maybe she wasn't registered or that my great uncle misremembers what he was told.

Not sure, might be worth finding out. I just spoke to my dad, he was thrilled that people had kindly replied to me. He told me that my uncle has spoken to my Great Uncle Ray who lives in Australia and he seems to think he had a twin sister. The Ivor is very interesting though, but he can't think how he fits in.

Don't know if it applied back then but if there's more than one birth eg twins, triplets etc the time of birth is given on the birth cert. So if you have the birth cert of the one you know about and it has a time of birth then there was definatly another baby born at the same time.

Thanks again all, the Whitehead/Virgin combination must be pretty rare and sounds like it must be family, though not sure what they were doing in Gloucester, the certificate might tell me more. Did anyone find a death for an Ivor after this record? My nan and her older brother were I think born in Saddleworth and hadn't realised Ray was born in Coventry where they were brought up. I will have something to tell my dad now thanks to you, Jon and Suzie.

Thanks all, the Gloucester one sounds worthy of follow up, will have a think later.

I have found a whitehead/virgin birth in the last quarter 1922....but its a boy named IVOR and in Gloucester 6a-496. If the baby was ill do you think he/she might have been sent there? A long shot but hey! Gerri x

Jon, Raymond was registered J/F/M 1922 No sign of any other children born to this family in 1921 or 1923, and to register a death you would have needed to register the birth surely, though I did check Mar qu deaths and nothing matched. Debs x

Thanks people, maybe they didn't register her because she was very ill. When was Raymond registered by the way. Can anyone find a death in Coventry around the same time? Thanks for your response.

Thankyou very much, I didn't say too much and see if anyone replied first. Yes Raymond was the son of A wHITEHEAD AND A vIRGIN AND THE SISTER THE SAME, MAYBE SHE WASN'T REGISTERED, BUT MY DAD WAS TOLD SHE LIVED A FEW MONTHS.
