They have said that all certs will be posted in smaller envelopes from now on - BUT they did say that they were wanting feed back from regular customers and if enough people ring up and say they don;t like it then may be we could get them to change it. The women on the phone said that the might put in place something where you can pay a bit more money and have it in an A4 envelope or, my suggestion was that you could send a SAE, it would be worth a couple of extra days wait if the cert didn't have a great big fold down it. One arrived this morning with a great big fold. I was so dissapppointed - anyway, on the bright side, it is one of my rellies!

They are obviously getting things in place for the new postal charges coming soon, when the amount you pay on postage depends on the size of the envelope and not the weight.

I know - they also said that they are currently despatching certs. from the 10th March.

Do you think the folds matter then??? (obviously yes, but why??) Merry (origami specialist!)

Personally speaking, I think the nicest certificates I have got are the ones from the Northern Ireland GRO and they are all folded, but it doesn't bother me at all. My original birth certificate has been folded all its 'life' as far as I know, and all the ones passed on to me by my family were folded too! Kate.

I do like them to be nice for the simple reason that I look at mine - I have them in folders with all the other records, I can understand that it doesn't matter to you Merry because you scan all yours in, but I prefer to look at the real thing and just think that it looks better without the fold - I guess it is just a matter of personal opinion - but that's mine,

Why on earth does it matter whether the things arrive folded or not? Are people framing them and hanging them on the wall or something? Surely what matters is the INFORMATION on the cert. If mine would arrive a bit sooner (been waiting two and a half weeks now), I'd happily accept them folded in two, or even folded into a paper hat. Andrew.

They do - but when you are paying £7 you would think that they could stretch to a larger envelope and we should expect to get them pristine - hey, if you wanted you could fold them up when you got them.

I think they are dead cheap at £7.....If you saw the rigmarole they have to go through to produce one, I'm amazed they are not more...... Merry

have to agree with Andrew, I'd happily accept one I am desperate to get my hands in the shape of a paper hat, the originals I have are all folded and I wouldn't swap them for all the tea in china :)

Yes, I HAVE framed and hung several of my certs !! .... and yes, I find it annoying to receive folded certs - especially if the fold is through a hard to read piece of info !! Have to admit, only ever received 2 certs that were folded ... and haven't ordered a cert for months - but no doubt one day I will find reason to apply for another! not lookingforward to that at alkl! Elaine ;-)

I have just been counting!!! I have 36 original certs.....(ie the ones issued at the time of the event.). Most of these are folded. Of the other undisclosed number (LOL almost too frightened to add them up!) just under half are folded, BUT around 65% of those folded ones have my rellies signature on them, because they are copies of the originals (not transcripts).....so overall, other than the originals, these ones are the best to me!! (Hmmm bad grammar day!) Merry

Gary Report 15 Mar 2006 17:39

I order between 10 & 20 certs a month, surely it would be more expensive to sent 20 small envolopes, than one large one, i would not thing you could get that many folded in 3 in a small envolope
