Ok I'm trying to find information on my ggggg grandfather born in around the end of the 1700's. I asked for help last night regarding the 1841 & thank you to those of you what helped but I'm now really confused! I had found George Gale married to Jennifer Colmer in North Hill, previously on a site (forgot to make a note of it) they had at least one son Shadrack Gale born in 1819 at North Hill. Last night someone found a George Gale living in North Hill married to Jane Blight with a daughter Anna Gale (1832). When George died Jane continued to live in North Hill with her daughter & her family. The problem is I now don't know which of these George's is my ggggg grandfather & how I would go about finding out.....also I'm pretty sure if the 2nd George isn't my grandafather he must be connected in some way (small area). Please help me outa my hole!!

I AM NOW CONFUSED!!! Just looking at 1841 census: George Gale 55 Ag Lab Geniford? Gale 45 (female) Ann Gale 9 1841 doesn't state relationships. Where does Jane Blight come from?

I have not got access to 1841 but !851 gives Shadrack Gale 1819 Northill Cornwall living with Rebecca Wife 1825 Carlstock Enoch J. Gale 1850 Carlstock living in Carlstock. Shadrock is a blacksmith 1861 still in Carlstock they are joined by Elijah 1854 and Shadrock 1857 with names like that I would look for memorial inscriptions in the local chapels. Do you live near enough to visit the graveyard? p.s. 1841 comming soon to ancestry.

Anna Gale abt 1832 North Hill, Cornwall, England Daughter North Hill Cornwall View Record George Gale abt 1787 Dorset, England Head North Hill Cornwall View Record Jane Gale abt 1793 North Hill, Cornwall, England Wife North Hill Cornwal Aren't Jane and Jennifer interchangeable? Where did Blight come from?

Clare Report 23 Mar 2006 21:41

Any suggestions where George & Jane may fit cause I don't think they can be on my bloodline & neither does George seem to be a brother to SHadrach who is a blood reli....... Strange thing is that I found George & Jane on Ancestry last night with a daughter called Anna could that be Hannah mispelled?

The only way to know for sure is to get the marriage cert. Could be George had a son called George.

Clare Report 23 Mar 2006 21:45

To answer Annie. Shadrack is my ggg grnadfather he married Rebecca Knott. Yes I'm lucky to live near the local cemetries & have already visited them. I'm lucky as my mum is parish clerk & has access to buriel record for approx last 100years! We ahve already found the grave for Rebecca shared by Elijah & his wife Maria, their son George & also a memorial to their 2 sons who died on the Titantic!

Clare Report 23 Mar 2006 21:49

Pippa correct me if I'm wrong but Hannah/Anna is down as being born in 1831 but Jane & George married in 1848 that would make the child born out of wedlock?

I just had a look at the Cornish family history site they have a lot of online information for Northill including 1841 census. Gale does not seem to be a common name. I noticed in 1841 George is listed as being born out of county so Tavistock could be his birth place. He is a shepherd.

Pippa Report 23 Mar 2006 22:00

Sorry got chucked off the main puter and now on the lap top in bed! If you check the ages on 1841 and 1851 Ann is the same age as Anna and Jennifer/Jane are only 3 years apart in age which is nothing due to the rounding up/down of the 1841. Jennifer and Jane are interchangeable as names and the free bmd listing may be a coincidence. Are you going to order the cert?

Clare

Clare Report 23 Mar 2006 22:02

The only cert I could order would be George & Jane's marriage am I right as this was 1848, all others pre-date 1838 am I right?

Clare

Clare Report 23 Mar 2006 22:05

Annie its strange though because before George all other of my relli's were born in Calstock or North Hill. When I looked at the 1851 census last night it showede George (the one who married Jane)as being born in Dorset so wouldn't have been Tavistock as that is inDevon. I 'm looking at the town light as I write as I can look right across into Devon!!

Pippa

Pippa Report 23 Mar 2006 22:06

Right the marriage cert for the 1848 listing. Although there is a George and Jane listed on the same page it could be that this George Gale could have married Mary Ann, Caroline or Ann!
