Thanks Mary re Charles Henry Engle also Richard in Perth if he is still about I will go back over my searches, especially in South Australia & ship arrivals to see if there are any Carl or Karl Heinrich Engels or similar. I have been assuming he would have arrived in Australia some time prior to abt 1878-80 at the birth of his son Chas Fred. But on thinking about it I hav'nt found his birth, marriage or death cert in Australia thus he may have been born in Germany, married elsewhere , even on the boat, came to Australia had a son and then departed. Sounds very speculative in the light of any conclusive data. Regards John in Balmain Sydney

Yes John - still about and still intrigued by your missing Engles! Do you have the arrival of Charles Frederick and Gwenllian into Australia - they must have entered the country sometime between 1909 and 1915? Richard

There are some German births on IGI, including some that are a bit similar to your names, but I imagine their records are very incomplete, and not necessarily reliable. If you're interested, go to http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=search_all1.asp&clear_form=true , and choose Germany as the country.

Hi Richard in Perth I searched the name Engle for arrival to NSW between 1909-1915 some time ago on the Society of Australian Geneologists on-line sites some time back when I was just starting this lark for nil result. I need to go back and revisit these searches with some help from more experienced hands. Do you know of any likely sites that might help? I have also asked Victoria Barry who has a thread for early South Australian arrivals. Thanks for your interest John in Balmain Sydney
