If Suzanne's theory is right, then you probably will need to see that marriage cert in order to find her father. The fact that your mum won't show it to you does suggest that there's a skeleton there!! Of course, there's nothing to stop you ordering a copy of the cert for yourself, since you have the reference... Richard

Ok Heres a theory: If your mothers was probably not Morris Hodgson's daughter as he would have been in the war fighting and she isnt in the indexes as Hodgson so just guessing that your grandmother had a liaison with another man and your mother was given his name. (She could then have changed her name by deed poll). Nothing surprises me... I went to my own grandparents wedding when I was 12 years old!!!!! (My nan changed her name by deed poll so she always legally had my grandads name anyway but for reason I wont go into she couldnt marry him until 44 years later!!) Suzanne

Yes married name. If you find her and she is a Young then you know fore sure she married, if shes a Hodgson then she didnt. Suzanne

No sign of an Ann(e) Young with MMN Wood eithre. Just had a thought what is the fathres name on your Mothres marriage cert? Should of thought of such an obvious question before!!!
