I can find no birth date, or place, or any other info bar his marriage. Anybody any ideas? Will check later, have a last work shift to do. |

Hi Lynda Have you got him on 1841 yet? Could it be that he was born outside england ? I have had a quick look and there are a number of Drummonds in 1841 with quite a few born Scotland and Ireland. for example... James Drummond abt 1755 Scotland Hove Sussex Catharine Drummond abt 1791 Scotland Hove Sussex Sarah Bowring abt 1813 Sussex, England Hove Sussex Harriet Nelson abt 1810 Hove Sussex William Norman abt 1816 Sussex, England Hove Sussex Let us know if and where you have him on the Census and we can take it from there. HTH ... Paul |

Hi, Son was christened in 1821 with the name wiliiam james, and yes he was a carpenter. Have no idea what james hope, his father was, or if he and his wife katherine were still around in 1841. Have found william on the census's form 1841 -1871, he died in 1878, but have no info on james hope, or indeed katherine, nee sage |

So William James never married, then?? I expect this is William James in 1841 >>>William Drummond abt 1821 Middlesex, England St Pancras Middlesex Thomas Evans abt 1826 Middlesex, England St Pancras Middlesex Joseph George abt 1828 Middlesex, England St Pancras Middlesex John Jones abt 1801 Middlesex, England St Pancras Middlesex He is a carpenter, as you said. No family members there (apparently) Oops, just read that you have this! Merry |

What is James's occupation on his son's marriage certificate, and does it say 'deceased' for him? Kate. |

And another question for you - this is James and Katherine's marriage, have you had a look at the actual entry in the parish records for it? JAMES HOPE DRUMMOND Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: KATHERINE SAGE Family Marriage: 07 AUG 1820 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England If you haven't already, then look at the actual parish records entry, because it may give you further information, such as names of witnesses, who could be related to him, whether he had been married before, where he was living (at least, what parish he was living in...) Kate. |

Sorry Lynda, I was being a bit cryptic! I meant what did it say about dad on the marriage cert? Merry |

Hi, Williams wedding cert says his father is a labstring maker, maker being the only word I can make out! |

Unless the IGI is wrong then William was actually christened in 1825, when he was 4: WILLIAM JAMES DRUMMOND Male -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: 25 FEB 1821 Christening: 15 MAY 1825 Old Church, Saint Pancras, London, England Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Parents: Father: JAMES HOPE DRUMMOND Family Mother: CATHERINE The batch number is actually for 1825 onwards, so it seems unlikely to be that the year for his baptism is wrong on the IGI. So, have you looked at the actual parish records entry for this baptism? Again, it is possible that there is some information on it that might help you, although by 1825 they were using the standard forms so it will probably only be father's occupation and residence. That would be something, though! Also, if he died between 1821 and 1825, it might mention that he was deceased on the baptism entry. It does seem likely to me that either James or Catherine died soon after William's birth, or they split up, because they don't seem to have had any other children - or do you know of any others? Kate. |

Hi, Yes william was 5 when christened, and I know of no other children. Am now trying to find out who has the parish records for the old church st pancras. |

Also, much more tenuous, but I can't help wondering if these people might be connected: JAMES HOPE Male Family -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Event(s): Birth: Christening: Death: Burial: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Marriages: Spouse: MARION DRUMMOND Family Marriage: 08 NOV 1796 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland It would make more sense if the husband was a Drummond and the wife a Hope, though, wouldn't it, unless James was born before they got married? But since I haven't found a birth for him, it is probably just a coincidence. Kate. |
