if i buy the credits from gr to see sencus will it show me all the ppl that were living at that address or just that one person i dont really know how to use it at all

Heather Report 9 May 2006 12:04

Hi Rosie Is this the 1901 census? I haven't used it since GR took it on but it used to be free to search the index then cost 75p per image. There was a 50p option but that didn't tell you anything. A subscription to Ancestry sounds expensive but it's much better value. Heather

Who are you looking for?

Snowdrops in Bloom

Snowdrops in Bloom Report 9 May 2006 12:05

Rosie, never used the credits but annual membership not only allows you to see where that particular person lived it also shows you who was in the household and all the houses in that street, town, the whole country in fact. Not only do they give you the year you are looking for but all census from 1841 to 1901 and all for one price!! You can look at as much as you like with annual membership as often as you like. If you have a few to look at it might be worthwhile considering Snowdrops

Heather Report 9 May 2006 12:35

Is the lostcousins offer still there? When I hover the mouse over the Ancestry icon there's a box saying 'save 20%' but when I click on the link it seems to be about 1861 census. Heather

Glen In Tinsel Knickers

Glen In Tinsel Knickers Report 9 May 2006 12:45

Ancestry membership gives you England and Wales births marriage and death for 1837-1983,birth marriage and death 1984 to 2003. Census from 1841 to 1901 for England and Wales,Pallots marriage index and more besides. It doesn't cover Scotland, but unless your lot spent time north of the border you won't need to worry. Glen

I joined Ancetry supposedly through the 20% off offer but found they had still charged the full price to my card... still arguing with them about it.

Rosie - don't give up it takes a bit of practice to get anything from Ancestry. Tell us who you are looking for and someone will tell you the best way to find them. There's lots of tricks to learn! Anne
