I got my Hot Matches yesterday and most were Jean Brown. Not the correct one, either. But the interesting one was someone with 40 matches, including my side, my husband's side and all my children. Don't know what happened there.

I am getting annoyed now WHERE ARE MY HOT MATCHES. I have not had any since 10th April and before that I was getting them every 14 days. I have had a couple of good contacts through hot matches. So please please can I have my hot matches. Christine

Peter Thanks Laura I don't have a delete option - just discard match First time I had tried deleting (I hoard everything at home too!) as was trying to reduce size of hot matches. Linda

Linda, you cant delete them altogether, only move names into 'ignored' this is the way it works.....!

Krissie Hate to burst your bubble but if you send a message to a non-member they can reply to you, it is the only way they can send messages, in other words they cannot make first contact Bren

What I don't understand is why no-one has EVER sent ME a query about a hot match. I always do mine conscientiously ever since I had a really good one at the start of my membership. Haven't had much luck since, though. The funniest one I had was a match with my brother! We live in different countries and unknown to me, he had just put a small tree on the site. Unfortunately, although he got my email about the match he couldn't reply because he wasn't a paid-up member. That explains why some people don't respond at all.

Interesting.... I had notification for new Hot Matches through an e.mail today. Went direct (not through the link) to my Hot Matches and there was nothing new! Went back to the e.mail notification which gave three new names and clicked individualy on their links......Two no longer have their names as Hot Matches and the third is an existing contact! Given my names usually produce up to six pages of contacts and I haven't had my usual update (due Sunday before last)...Can I assume/presume Genes are in the process of improving the service??? LOL Chris

Hi all, Got mine today - unfortunately added a John Brown last week and so got 9 pages worth (all discarded!) Seriously, when I discard they are ending up in the ignored matches link! Anyone else having that trouble? Linda

Had mine last night and have had some good contacts in the past. Bren

One of the 'undocumented features' seems to be that is one of your existing Hotmatch connections refreshes their tree, it appears as a 'new' member next time Hotmatches is run. So i suppose is all 100 refresh then you never move any further on.....?

Ellen Report 9 May 2006 18:02

Oh know ! That explains why mine all began with letter B

Just got mine, I had 4 pages, but they only go up to the letters But....... Now considering most of my main relatives in my tree start with the letter M, I presume I wont ever get those hot matches! Just looked at the FAQ re Hot matches and it says Hot Matches looks at each individual in your tree, then it goes through the database and brings back to first 100 matches with these people. This page will refresh approximately every 14 days bringing you the next 100 matches. We set the limit to 100 matches as any more can be quite overwhelming. The Hot Matches page will show an exact name and year of brith match. So if they set the limit at the first 100, I will never get the ones I need!

Well - I haven't got mine - so, no, we don't get them all at the same time. Wonder how they work it out. Maybe tomorrow........ Jacquie

Who's prepared to bet that they end up with less hot matches than they started with? I have 17 at the moment. Genuine matches and I've made contact with most of then (usually before they appeared as hot matches). But two have removed their trees from the site, so I reckon my list will go down to 15. Conversely, those who are now in my discarded hot matches will reload their trees and the previously rejected John Edwards will all appear as new matches. Ho hum.
