Have just had the June issue of Practical Family History through the letter box and it has several pages about a new family history series that starts on UK TV History channel on 15th May 9pm. Get your certificate orders in now and beat the rush!

I saw it listed in the Radio Times, they are also showing the first series of WDYTYA.

Hi Ivan Thanks for pointing it out - I've just been and checked it out and it looks like it might be interesting - ordinary people who are related to famous people. First one is about a music student who didn't know Florence Nightingale was her ancestor. WDYTYA is on just before it - repeats. Snowdrops

Oh wow, I would love to watch it, and UK TV History is one of the very very few FreeView channels I have, but it clashes with New Tricks AND Dead Ringers, so I hope it will be repeated! I bet it will. Kate.

Ian Report 10 May 2006 11:22

I've just checked the digital guide on sky and it shows that it's repeated three times in the same day. 9:30 am 4:30 pm and 9:00 pm Then you can watch them an hour later on channel 537 UKTV History +1 So you have 6 chances to catch it on the one day. :D I'll miss them though no doubt. Got to try and figure out this darn new dvd recorder.

Thanks, Ian. The 9 o'clock will start when I'm dropping off my daughter at school but perhaps I won't miss too much of it. The afternoon showing - no chance, cos the kids will be home by then, and as I only have (a bit of) Freeview I won't get that plus one thingy, but I will see if I can catch most of that 9 a.m. showing. Kate.

Looby do we know if it's the same programme over and over again or they are showing a series in a very short space of time? Snowdrops

Kate

Kate Report 10 May 2006 11:53

Ah, it's a different episode every day! I think I'll give it a miss, then. And I have no idea how to record from the Freeview box onto the video....! Kate.

Hi Snowdrop Looks like five different programmes the first week, and then a couple of them repeated the following Mon/Tues. Also seem to be showing a couple each of the WDYTYA each day. God help us!!!!!!! Looby

Thanks Looby and Kate. Only problem is system overload AND cutting into 'reasearch time' - don't those television programmers know anything? lol Snowdrops

Kate Report 15 May 2006 16:32

Just be prepared to wince every time you hear the word 'ancestor' used wrongly (I watched most of it this morning but missed the beginning). And I didn't see any mention of certificates at all, so it might not cause a surge in applications after all. Kate.

Thanks Kate - sorry forgot it had been on this morning - I have it set for this evening!!!!!!

You disappoint me, Kate. I was dying to find out about Florence Nightingale's secret lovechild!

Vicky

Vicky Report 15 May 2006 17:35

I watched this mornings showing about the Florence Nightingale connection & was very disappointed in how they decided she 'had a famous ancestor' I made it something like 6th cousin three times removed. So I really AM related to everyone & anyone, including half of Northumberland, THE Spencer family, Keira Knightley, Uncle Tom Cobbley...

Kate

Kate Report 15 May 2006 17:50

Laura, they start with the famous person and try to find somebody living who is related to them. Kate.
