Just thought I'd update you a bit on this one, I wrote to the man who has Louis Molloy on his Rootsweb tree, he was very interested to hear from me, as he had no idea of Louis ancestry, he had just sent for the social security details. He got that today, and has sent me a copy. Most definitely my Great Uncle! Thanks so much to you all, from me and my Dad, who just still can't believe what help can be given by total strangers. What a lovely bunch you all are. Suexx

I've just got of the phone to Dad, that was a bit difficult......He is shocked to think his Uncle chose to disappear, It was thought he might have signed up and died in the WW1, but the 1830 census dispells that one. It is one of those things, should I have left this alone???? or more to the point, should I have kept this newfound info to myself?? Having said that Dad is looking forward to seeing what documentation I eventually come up with. He is also in disbelief about what a wonderful bunch of helpful people you have been. Suex Just to confirm, Dad says he did leave England before he was born, Pre1919. and he did go to USA not Canada (don't know where I got that from!

You are all absolutely wonderful, I had been thinking of puting a thread on here asking for thoughts as how I could look for him, when last night I stumbled across the 1930 US Census entry, which I have to say got me exited! A problem in tracking him down has been his forename, It has always been pronounced Lewis, as was his father, So that's what I'd been looking up, but on several things his father is documented as Louis. Louis' father is Lewis? Born in England, and his Grandfather Robert, from England, His G grandfather was from Ireland! I haven't spoken to Dad yet, I don't know really how to tackle this, I think I'll have to start with general enquiries! Thank you all so much, It will take me an age to absorb all the info you have given me. but I am so excited! Suex

If you go to the Social Security Death Index site at: http://ssdi.rootsweb(.)com and enter Louis' information (he is listed on the site) you can then click on a link provided and send for a copy of the form that Louis filled out when he obtained his Social Security number.....there is information on the applications that would name his parents, place of birth, etc.... Jim, That's why I found the DOB so exciting, I'll phone Dad tomorrow, ans see if he can lay his hands on the letters to confirm the dates, It could of course be that he can recall the memory implanted by his Mum, if you see what I mean, but on the other hand if he arrived in 1911, he would have been not much more than a child, well, he would have been 18, I suppose that's not too bad, but to have made his mark as a musician by that age is unlikely. He was from a relatively poor East london family, so have no idea how he managed to even get a violin! But given the circumstances, I can understand him needing to get away! I'll phone Dad! Thanks so much for your help. Suex

I'm sure he left England after 1920, as Dad has a faint recollection of him, (Dad born 1919) so, the family in 1920 census could indicate it's the wrong family! but the names a bit different isn't it? Suex

Sue

Sue Report 30 May 2006 21:13

The story about the man I'm looking for is that he left England in the early 1920's, he apparently went to Canada, there were a few letters from him, but they dried up. Then there was no more contact. My Nan,( his sister) and his parents enlisted the help of the Salvation Army to help find him, but had no luck. I'm told he was a musician, played Violin, and taught music, I'm sure as a kid I was told he was a composer as well. It was always a mystery as to what happened to him. If this is him it would be amazing. Unfortunately Nan died about 1990, and Dad is the only one of the family left.

Jim, Does that really say Louis was from England? And from the death index, does that really say his birthdate is 15.01.1893? This is so exciting if it does.....I don't suppose it says on the census what his occupation was? Suex
