Isnt it awful when you are so excited you can hardly sit still , I have finally ordered some certs for a family I have been trying to find for a loooong time thanks to some help on here, and if they are right will take me a lot further, trouble is there is a long wait for the certs and I am having trouble keeping calm , cannot discuss it with hubby he isnt really interested, and he might find out I am spending more money. Just keeping my Fingers and Toes crossed they are the right ones.

me too, have ordered about 10 over the last month - all important ones to help me get back further with maiden names / names of Fathers, they are speeding up a bit and I have despatch date of around about the 12th, but people have been getting them from despatch date 9th, so hopefully they are speeding up and will arive ASAP!!!!

I used to order a lot at once but I think he is getting suspicious as he thinks they are free, but even he isnt that stupid he will catch on eventually.

Yes, Jacquie.... I'm a great believer in the women's movement too. It's no fun when they just lie still! ;-)

Blimey, I'm not sure how to take all of that - suggest you all go off and have a cold shower, then concentrate on dead relatives! Hope that tax return comes soon, Valerie. Isn't tax a pain... Jacquie

yes Jacquie it is, He indoors has just stopped being self employed and of course they tax you on what they think you will earn, and he didnt, so we want it all back.Oh and I dont need a cold shower more likely some Viagra.

I know what you mean, i order a couple every other week or try to so that the first will arrive after i have sent the others off, i get excited after i have posted them then depressed after the first few days cos i dont know when i will get them lol hubby knows you have to pay for them but what hes spent on cars in the 11 yrs we have been together we could of paid our mortgage off a number of times, so i think he just stays quiet lol anyway the certs im waiting for are for his mothers paternal side anyway. and hes got no interest in family history either.

Surely you guys don't need to justify the relatively small amount you spend on your hobby? I could think of dozens of pursuits which cost more - and let's face it, a round of drinks in the pub costs more than a certificate.

I dont like being sneaky really , but you are right he has always bought New Cars no second hand ones for us, even though I was quite happy with the one I had ,he had to change it. The trouble is its not a small amount I added it up the other day how many Certs I had bought, because I am afraid I like to get them all, Birth Marriages Deaths I just love to read them.I find them fascinating, and you get lots of clues on them sometimes, like witnesses. So I have a huge folder under the Desk hidden , and I sneak them out and have a little look now and then. Dont get me wrong he isnt mean , but it is a bit awkward at the moment.

I have to admit that as I sit hear wondering how long I can afford to stay in my home I do look at the certs I have accumilated and wished Id not bought them all.....only when the bank comes down on you that you realise!!!!!!!! Suzanne

Suzanne , it is frightening how much we spend without realising it, I reckon lots of people have gone bankrupt or into debt over this family tree stuff. After all how you can carry on sometimes without proof. I was really good at saving till I started this , now I spend that and more on Certs. It is an addiction.

Hi there I just tell my husband that I could be smoking, drinking and gambling. That shuts him up.

Hi Valerie, hope your certificates get to you quickly. Do you order from the GRO? It's usually a lot quicker you know ordering from the register office local to the event, plus, i've never been charged anything at all if the checking points i've given don't match up with the details on the certs from local registrars. Personally, I think it's a bit of a rip off to charge you anything at all when you've given the checking points as well. Anyway, all the best John

Still not arrived , wish they would hurry up. But then again he would have been in when the Postman came ,so lucky really .We are a sneaky lot arent we???? John I never realised they dont charge for ref checks, I would not have so many wrong ones if I had known that ,am going to order them from the local offices in future thanks for that.
