Silly Sausage Report 6 Jun 2006 16:14

I have recived my GGranmothers second wedding certificate this morning , everything matches up nicely with census and children, but she had 2 differant names for her father first in 1889 to my GGrandad Herbert Wilde , her father is named as Daniel Staley occ coal miner, on her second one its to Ernest Matthews he,s named as William Staley deceased collier. Now I cannot place her in earlier census cause which one was her father? one of her witness in her first marriage was Emma Staley , on second Emma Farnival . Was Emma her sister or cousin? As Sarah,s other marriage (first) other witness was William Burgess, who an Emma Staley went on to marry! Any ideas???

Whereabouts did these people live? did your great-grandmother have a first name and if so what was it? Is she consistent about where and when she was born on censuses? That should help you to find her earlier. nell

1871 - choice of 2 possibles, bearing in mind year of birth might be out slightly: Alfreton Derbyshire Martha Staley abt 1832 Tean, Staffordshire, England Head Alfreton Derbyshire >>>Sarah Ann Staley abt 1864 Alfreton, Derbyshire, England Daughter Emma Staley abt 1867 Alfreton, Derbyshire, England Daughter Alfreton Derbyshire OR Newhall Derbyshire Daniel Staley abt 1851 Newhall, Derbyshire, England Head Ruth Staley abt 1843 Gresley, Derbyshire, England Wife John Staley abt 1862 Newhall, Derbyshire, England Son Hannah Staley abt 1864 Newhall, Derbyshire, Daughter >>> Sarah Ann Staley abt 1866 Newhall, Derbyshire, Daughter Frank Staley abt 1869 Newhall, Derbyshire, England Son this seems to be the family Elaine found in 1891. Daniel is a coal miner, which fits in with the marriage cert you have, BUT Sarah Ann;'s birthplace doesn't fit in with Sarah Wild's. Bear in mind that the Emma on one marriage cert might not be the same Emma on the other. She might also be a Staley by marrying one of Sarah Ann's male relatives. nell

Thankyou Elaine It could be as I cann,t place her with a William in any census, but with a Martha (head) and Emma in 1881 census, as William could of died by then, don,t think it mensions if she is a widow thou.

Elaine Report 6 Jun 2006 16:29

Helen In your 1871 census the Sarah in the first one (Alfreton) appears to match the 1891 I found with Herbert - and doesn´t match the Daniel one !!

Elaine

Elaine Report 6 Jun 2006 16:42

The 1891 census we found with Herbert looks like the right one - Herbert Wild abt 1865 Audenshaw, Lancashire, England Head Ashton under Lyne Lancashire James Wild abt 1890 Audenshaw, Lancashire, England Son Ashton under Lyne Lancashire Sarah A Wild abt 1864 Alfriston, Derbyshire, England Wife Ashton under Lyne Lancashire here she is again in 1901 - remarried Ernest Matthews abt 1873 Audenshaw, Lancashire, England Head Audenshaw Lancashire Sarah Ann Matthews abt 1866 Olferton, Derbyshire, England Wife Audenshaw Lancashire James Wilde abt 1891 Audenshaw, Lancashire, England Stepson Audenshaw Lancashire Maria Wilde abt 1899 Audenshaw, Lancashire, England Daughter Audenshaw Lancashire Willie Wilde abt 1893 Audenshaw, Lancashire, England Stepson Audenshaw Lancashire

Elaine

Elaine Report 6 Jun 2006 16:43

Therefore this looks more probable in 1871 Martha Staley abt 1832 Tean, Staffordshire, England Head Alfreton Derbyshire Sarah Ann Staley abt 1864 Alfreton, Derbyshire, England Daughter Emma Staley abt 1867 Alfreton, Derbyshire, England Daughter Alfreton Derbyshire

yes Iam one message behind you elaine you can muliti task. the 1901 census is correct as herbert died in 1894, i have the cert. but again Maria Wilde should be a Matthews, as Sarah would of been married then to Mr Matthews.
