Val - you don't use AOL by any chance do you? Someone else had a very similar problem about a week ago and it turned out it was one of the adverts (for nuisance noise!!!) that was playing the click.

hi I had a seperate line put in when my husband ran a business so it would not interfere with him, and did not bother to change it when I went to Broadband I am going to though as paying for 2 lines is silly. When the line goes off the Green light on the right of the Speed touch thing blinks on and off so is this the Phone line then ,sorry I am not always here to answer but I dont get a chance to stay on here all day wish I could. and I dont use AOL thanks for that.

Hi Valerie, What model Speedtouch is it? The number should be on the bottom probably 536. If the green light that starts blinking is the one that I think it is - you have have a problem with your line. Or there is a problem with the ISP's hardware. As I said before ADSL can be very sensitive to iffy telephone lines that work perfectly for voice and dial-up. Here in Australia a telephone line is only required by regulation to work to a particular standard for voice, so if we have problems that affect broadband it is sometimes difficult to get anything done about them. Line faults, which could also be internal wiring, can be intermittent and tricky to find. Have you contacted your ISP help desk to lodge a fault? Paul

Mines fine today again aswell Val. I do think its just overload on the system - perhaps people are logging on to look at stuff about the *********** football or something all the time.

Well, I dont really understand the system Val, but I imagine there is a finite amount of 'space' on the network.

Val, Im wondering if its the updates - I notice a lot of people on general are talking about their pcs freezing and the like. Mine is driving me mad this morning when I was doing hubbys letters, kept freezing and sending those error messages to MS. I think I may just do a system restore back to last week as I cant have this. Even my printer which has never been trouble refused to work - error said not receiving message. I turned off everything then back on and it printed fine. ********** updates, why do they cause so much aggro. And GR is so SLOW, isnt it. Its not just me as Im getting 2 or three messages at a time from people who obviously have been clicking send several times, like Ive had to.
