Have tried for several years now to find my great grandmother's death, I'm not getting any closer and going crazy! I'm about to go down to London to visit some rellies graves and I'm so upset that I can't find her at all. I've used every name she could've had, I've looked 20 years either side of her date, there is nothing!! Any one got any tips please? I don't want to give, but I fear I may have to : ( Kirsten

If it won't disclose anything which could cause problems, can you name names and give dates? maybe someone here can help. Christine

''20 years either side of her date''???? what do you mean by ''her date''? Is this Mrs Goldberg or Goldblum or something?? Didn't she have an unusual first name?? Merry

Name was Bloomah Stuckgold, mispelt as Stickgold, has since changed to Gold. Was widowed for 40 odd years and lived with her sister, so she may have gone back to her maiden name of Witte, was born 1881, died around 1962. There is nothing of her!

By date, I mean around the time she died. My Dad remembers her dying. Never ending story with me, just trying hard not to give up.

Could she have used a translated-variant such as Goldpiece? Christine

I don't know. She wasn't English, she only had her son and sister after her husband died and my grandad never mentioned her changing her name.

So this isn't ? Blooma GOLDBERG, age 66, Paddington 5d-230 1962-Mar Christine

Oh yes, well, I DO remember her! LOL Do you have any idea WHERE she died? Merry

Hi Christine, Have seen that one and the year is too far out. She would've been born in 1894 if it was her, my great grandma was born in 1881. It's too far out, I think.

Well her husband died in Hackney, and her sister in Stepney, both are buried in East Ham Cemetery. Sister moved to England after husband died, so I believe she's also buried at East Ham. Have contacted United Synagogues, and they were very helpful. She lived in East London, in the Whitechapel area, and didn't move out of the town.

Do you know where she and sister lived? Could you try electoral rolls to see when they moved/died? Merry

Kirsten

Kirsten Report 18 Jun 2006 22:53

Hi Julie, Yes, that is her. Have her marriage cert. I guess I could try electoral rolls, but I don't live in London, so that's a bit difficult. I'm planning on going down there shortly, I just want to use all other options before that one.

Do you know where she was born, what country she came from and where she lived? Gwen

Kirsten

Kirsten Report 18 Jun 2006 22:55

She was born in Poland. Came to England after 1901 (wasn't on the census) but before 1905 (when she married).

I think you should check out the one Chrsitine posted (if only to properly dismiss it). A distant rellie of mine shows on the death indexes as aged 24 when his death cert shows he was 44. Mistakes do happen. Merry

The thought has crossed my mind. And with all the searches I've not found any other first named Blooma's. I'll look into it, it's just that the district isn't right. Where abouts is Paddington in relation to Whitechapel?

There is a Bloomah Gold on the 1891 census born in abt 1895 Poland living in whitechapel any relation? Gwen

Hi Gwen, Thanks for looking, I think I may have seen that one, she wasn't in the country until after 1901. Bloomah Stuckgold was also her married name.
