Hi Merry, LOL!!! Think will get the certificate, whats money?! Will remind you, groom Richard Lamberts father on marriage undecipherable, sent you and Dea the certificate and neither of you could read it, We found a baptism of a Richard lambert in Llandogo and father was Carthaliner. We then decided the old vicar was hard of hearing and thought he said Linah and thats what the cert said!! Dea found site on the net about a Lambert Castle in Yorkshire, built by a Carthaliner (too young to be mine), but she was convinced there was a tie in as there was evidence of Lambert members visiting from Llandogo to Yorkshire. You suggested that I scan the certificate and send it off to the Gwent Records Office, remember the bit about me being the poor English girl throwing myself at Welsh mercy etc... Well they replied today, saying cant understand why the GRO couldn't read it, the grooms fathers name is Isiah Lambert. so back to the drawing board, just sent a mail to Dea, as she wanted to know of any developments. thing is I cant find another Richard lambert born in 1808 Llandogo with a father Isiah, now wondering if he has guessed at the name and it is a case of welsh pride and getting one over on the GRO.....clutching at straws again Merry!! Fuzzy xx

If it was me I would probably try that cert! (and then regret it!) You did tell me the Lambert thing, but I couldn't remember the original difficulty, so wasn't sure quite what you were talking about! LOL Hoped you wouldn't notice, but as you mention it!!!........lol Merry

Thanks Merry, that brought a smile to my face. Do you think it is worth sending off for, or to much of a long shot?? Fuzzy x Ps did you see my bit about the cert re the lambert name we couldn't read?

thanks for that Kate, it is nice to know I am not alone!! I have just trawled though the complete images of death indexes from his marriage in 1876 up to 1880, no sign of him. closest I came was a William Reed aged 41 in St Saviour in 1880, and from what Merry found he should be 49, why do we all do this?!!! have bruises from banging head against the wall today!!

Fuzzy, I have a similar couple in my tree, my great-great-grandparents (originally from Horsleydown, strangely enough) who are living a few doors apart in 1891, she is a 'widow' and he 'married' (but without a wife). Their daughter's death cert dated 19th Nov 1892 describes the father as 'deceased' but I have not found a death for him between then and the 1891 census. Kate.

Wouldn't put anything past these 'strait' laced victorians, widow sounds better than 'abandoned wife'!! He is definately dead by 1892 as he is down as deceased on the marriage cert of his daughter, unless they continued the charade of course!!! I was beginning to worry that I had they correct birth cert of Mary Elizabeth Reed 1873, but I am sure I have she is down as 19 on her marriage in 1892 which puts her at 1873, and i can find only one Mary Elizabeth Reed born in St Saviour Southwark for that year, love it when they have middle names, makes finding them easier!! Fuzzy x

Merry Report 21 Jun 2006 14:36

I expect the dressmaker is the one......maybe her hubby went off with someone else and she was never a widow? I would have felt happier if I had found James and Mary Reed in 1891 as separate people to your widow and her daughter, but I can't find them........probably only because they have not been very helpful with their place of birth in 1881! Merry

Dont worry forget that last message I found her....Bum I see what you mean. Pretty sure it is the dressmaker though as just thought on the 1891 census, the year before mary reed (1873) gets married she is at home with just her mum a widow who is a dressmaker.....what you think....wish I could find his death record. I haven't even tried to find mary reed (1845) birth cert as i am so disillusioned with this family!! Fuzzy xx

in the words of Homer Simpson Doh!! Penny just dropped!! The Mary you gave me on the 1881 census as a visitor IS my Mary, her daughter Mary (1873) is staying with relatives on the 1881 census Source RG11/548 Folio 47 page 26. Interesting to note that it is 76 Beckway street and she gives 22 Beckway street as her address when she marries. Fuzzy xx

I know what you mean, Merry. The fact that I can't find his death worries me, and I have been looking for the past 10 minutes. The only thing that makes me feel a little better is that my Mary of 1873 grew up to be a dressmaker and that was they profession of the Mary 1845.....clutching at straws!! More bad news, just had a mail from the Gwent Records Office and remember the Name of Welsh origin or so we thought that we couldn't read. Well i must write to Dea Shaw I think you have had your time machine Merry and Dea can forget about the rembrandt!! Message was as follows, from a very smug chappie.. Dont know why GRO couldn't read this name it is Isiah Lambert Boooo Hoooo. I will forget about him for the moment and concentrate on william Henry/Henry

Merry

Merry Report 21 Jun 2006 13:46

It was the fact there is no death cert for William, henry or William Henry that was bothering me. If we have a death ref and could get the cert and it said brushmaker or timekeeper, reg by widow Mary, I would be happy! With William not dying, I just wondered if the Renouf family got William's first name wrong and called him James, by mistake??? Need to eliminate them really (esp as Mary's birth detais are just about the same as the other Marys'!!) Heather.....I'm sure I know someone who can lend you a large round magnifying glass, for your eyes......................... Merry

Hi Merry, I still love you!! No it wasn't child we were trying to find, also called Mary Reed born in 1873, it was bloody william!! Name on Mary Reeds(1873) birth certiifcate for father is William. Think the other couple is extraordinary coincidence, as you say Reed and Mary common names. would maybe have worried and panicked if the man had been called Henry as this was williams middle name and he is down as Henry on the marriage cert of his daughter. William must have died somewhere between marrying Mary in 1876 and the 1881. Must admit I haven't looked for his death as was so pi**ed off with him for leaving me with the headache of trying to find him!! Now done ironing, vets and supermarket! tidying can wait til tommorrow!! Fuzzy xx
