Man of mystery no more!! I had assumed that William would be around the same age as his wife who was born in 1845, so didn't think it would be any good looking for him on the 1851 as he wouldn't have been old enough to have a profession, and as Williams father was down as deceased on the marriage cert I couldn't even look for the father on the 1851. Merry obviously far more intelligent than me.....Found him at home on the 1851 aged 19 occupation Brushmaker...Yippeeee. He was born in 1832. Lesson learnt never assume anything!!

LOL, you lot!! When did William Henry die?? Would it be between 1876 (marriage) and the 1881 census?? And we are now saying he was 19 in 1851??? So in 1881 he would have been about 49ish.......... Hmmmmmmmm - I can't see any death registrations that look completely obvious :o(( But then there are no obvious ones, whatever age he was! Merry

It is a VERY small world, but.................................. I am feeling bothered! (nothing new there then!!) I vaguely remember this Reed saga from before.......Was it that in the 1881 census the child of William and Mary (whose name I can't remember) was living away from his/her mother? So we had to find Mary? Was this the person we found, below? 1881: Mary Reed abt 1845 Horsley Down, Surrey, England Visitor Southwark St George Martyr London She is shown as a widowed dressmaker and in the house of a lot of people called Johnson. My worry is, there is this other couple, below........OK, so the husband has the wrong first name, but he is a b****y Brushmaker! 1881: Brushmaker!!>>>James Reed abt 1849 London, London, Middlesex, England Visitor Southwark St John Horsleydown London Mary Reed abt 1844 London, London, Middlesex, England Visitor Southwark St John Horsleydown London Cripes!!! I hope you are able to eliminate them??! I only noticed James and Mary because I am doing a tree for a friend and he is related to the other people in this house....Philip Renouf and his family from Jersey. It's a complete fluke that I saw this the same day as you were talking about William Reed brushmaker. Reed is such a commonplace name, by tomorrow I wouldn't have noticed them! Shoot me now! lol Merry

But he will be back soon. So Ill just keep an eye on what you lot are doing - hope the minimising isnt too painful for you. Damn eyes still bad today - oh hum.

Hi Merry, I still love you!! No it wasn't child we were trying to find, also called Mary Reed born in 1873, it was bloody william!! Name on Mary Reeds(1873) birth certiifcate for father is William. Think the other couple is extraordinary coincidence, as you say Reed and Mary common names. would maybe have worried and panicked if the man had been called Henry as this was williams middle name and he is down as Henry on the marriage cert of his daughter. William must have died somewhere between marrying Mary in 1876 and the 1881. Must admit I haven't looked for his death as was so pi**ed off with him for leaving me with the headache of trying to find him!! Now done ironing, vets and supermarket! tidying can wait til tommorrow!! Fuzzy xx

It was the fact there is no death cert for William, henry or William Henry that was bothering me. If we have a death ref and could get the cert and it said brushmaker or timekeeper, reg by widow Mary, I would be happy! With William not dying, I just wondered if the Renouf family got William's first name wrong and called him James, by mistake??? Need to eliminate them really (esp as Mary's birth detais are just about the same as the other Marys'!!) Heather.....I'm sure I know someone who can lend you a large round magnifying glass, for your eyes......................... Merry

I know what you mean, Merry. The fact that I can't find his death worries me, and I have been looking for the past 10 minutes. The only thing that makes me feel a little better is that my Mary of 1873 grew up to be a dressmaker and that was they profession of the Mary 1845.....clutching at straws!! More bad news, just had a mail from the Gwent Records Office and remember the Name of Welsh origin or so we thought that we couldn't read. Well i must write to Dea Shaw I think you have had your time machine Merry and Dea can forget about the rembrandt!! Message was as follows, from a very smug chappie.. Dont know why GRO couldn't read this name it is Isiah Lambert Boooo Hoooo. I will forget about him for the moment and concentrate on william Henry/Henry

in the words of Homer Simpson Doh!! Penny just dropped!! The Mary you gave me on the 1881 census as a visitor IS my Mary, her daughter Mary (1873) is staying with relatives on the 1881 census Source RG11/548 Folio 47 page 26. Interesting to note that it is 76 Beckway street and she gives 22 Beckway street as her address when she marries. Fuzzy xx

Dont worry forget that last message I found her....Bum I see what you mean. Pretty sure it is the dressmaker though as just thought on the 1891 census, the year before mary reed (1873) gets married she is at home with just her mum a widow who is a dressmaker.....what you think....wish I could find his death record. I haven't even tried to find mary reed (1845) birth cert as i am so disillusioned with this family!! Fuzzy xx
