Hot in Cov, which is a big pain on a job which involves lots of heavy lifting. At least we get free staff meals so I don't have to worry about that.

Heather, We are lucky in that we are supplied from Keilder Reservoir - we have more than enough water in this area. Keilder (which is massive) was built for all the industry up here - before all the industry disappeared. The water authority up here spent a fortune building the reservoir which means we never have any water controls imposed. I think it's about time the water authorities in the south started spending some of their profits to sort out the shortages. By the way, hubby needn't have bothered - it started raining this evening. It's still unbearably hot though. Kath. x

Kathleen - a sprinkler - you are still allowed to use sprinklers??? We arent even allowed to use a hose in Norfolk. Only to save wildlife - which means we can top up our wildlife pond and thats it. The verges are brown out there and the plants are wilting, its awful.

Sheffield We were having a lovely BBQ an hour ago. Now it's pitch black, torrential rain, thunder and lighning. Typical British summer I suppose. Mind you, I love a good storm

I did marinated chicken on the barbie - In this weather, if you are going to cook, it should be outside.!!!!!! Left over chicken + ham + salad for tea. Dea Xxxxxxxxxx

Me too Sue, sod the family, you could have a stroke in this heat doing a hot dinner. Ive had some french bread, cheese and salad and thats it guys. I am on a diet but I reckon weekends is for a break, so Ive just eaten a Mars icecream. PLEASE everyone drink plenty of water. My dad and my mum in law had their first stroke in this sort of weather due to de hydration. Quite a few of us are of a certain age and it really does make sense to drink plenty of water while its this hot. I do wonder if those poor souls on general who have passed or become ill in the last few days (there has been so many) are being affected by the heat.

Dea, its terrible in Norfolk. Poor Ralph terrier has had sickness and the runs - I think its just so hot its made him feel ill. I went into my sons bedroom earlier - he has a hi tec thing that records outside temp - it was 40 degrees centigrade. I dont know what that is, but Im sure it must be over 90 because I havent been able to go outside the back door as it feels like an oven door opening and knocks you back. Only plus is that in my wild flower area I have two different types of orchids appearing.
