Jean I did exactly the same thing a few years ago. Bit short of money at the time so didnt buy the marriage cert. When I did eventually buy it a couple of years later I too found I had been researching the wrong family. Right village but not in the remotest possibility were they related too each other. Their ancestors were from different parts of the country. Lesson learnt Dont try to cut corners!!! Margaret

Jean I found my GGM, at home on the 1881 census with her hubby and their seven kids. Her name was what my father told me it was, so I didnt 'bother' with their marriage cert, because I was on a roll, got him and her back to the year dot, including buying a few certs to clear up some mysteries, getting Wills etc. Finally decided I needed their MC to complete the set - couldnt find it, so sent for the BC of my direct ancestor. She was the second wife and mother of NONE of the children - half a tree on the bonfire! OC

That's awful OC especially when it was so close....still it was in your tree...sort of. I also spent alot of time and money on rellies further back. aaaagghhhh. It wasn't so much cutting corners Margaret, it was believing family and I remember my gran saying she lived in Tudhoe, that's where she met my grandad...she maybe did but she wasn't born their. I actually think these two families of mine are related because they all lived in the same areas...loads of them but I haven't the inclination to bother now.. Jean ..... just the paperwork to sort out now.
