Does anyone know of an alternative to Georgina that might have been used on a census. In 1881 I have a Georgina Miller living with Husband William and kids in London. RG11; Piece: 198; Folio: 72; Page: 34. However I cannot fiind any trace of her beore that. Could she have used a different name, or could you suggest some alternative searchs. Cheers Mattew

It could have been misheard as Georgia. Would she have been married in 1871 or would she be under her maiden name? Kath. x

just to be difficult, Georgina might be a middle name - or she might have used a middle name previously. happy hunting

My ancestor was Eliza Louisa and on all official documents she used this name but in all the census she is Louisa. Perhaps if you look on IGI baptisms you may get her middle name and check if she used that. Good luck Irene

And of course the enumerator's spelling or writing may be a bit iffy. J

Find her marriage and then find her under her maiden name on previous censuses. nell

hiya, i would think they married sometime after 1886, but before 1871 cen, ideally just before 1st child born, if you can get a birth cert for one of children, this will give you maiden name, and then you can get a marriage cert then either parents birth certs, HTH Julie

That marriage looks just about in time for the first child - aged 2 in 1871. The image shows his name as WIlliam Denne MILLER - but it's a printed page, so an old GRO transcription. Christine
