Having trouble 'jumping' through Ancestry census images, rather than scrolling page by page - I´ll try to explain what I mean! For example - am looking at the records of Portsea Workhouse for 1871 and am on page 25 out of a possible 54. I want to view page 1 of the census returns and the only way I can get there is by going back page by page with the arrow button. Used to be able to change the page number in the box and press go - and hey presto it would take it to the page you wanted!! Doesn´t work any more. Anyone else having problems (or anyone else understand what I am trying to do !!)

Hi Sunshine, Know just what you mean, but no I have not had that probelm myself but do understand how frustrating it must be clicking back page by page. When you consider how many hours each day we spend sitting at our computers, waiting to change page after page can be VERY anoying. Go and have a large G&T, or even a cuppa!!! Kathlyn

Thanks Kathlyn, Have actually got a bacardi and coke at my side but its not helping!! - although I must say have had some great help from people on the board this morning which has kept me going!! No just wondered if someone else was experiencing the same problem - its only been like this for about the last week or 10 days (may be since Ancestry did its changes) - just wondered if there was a new viewer to download or something similar. Can I ask someone to experiment for me Can you do a lookup 1871 William Borwerie RG10/1130 154-12 It comes up on page 12 of 54 (Portsea Workhouse returns). Can you type 1 into the box, press GO and see if it goes back to page 1. (Mine does nothing) Thanks

I've being having the same problem Elaine so you're not on your own!! You better pour me one of those bacardi and cokes - and make it a large one! Pain in the rear end having to go page by page. For me it's also on the bmd pages.

Elaine......your example works OK for me! Look up Sarah Milford aged 41 living in Portsea, for a person on page 1 Have you cleared out your cookies etc lately?? Merry

Large B & C coming your way. Yes I´m also having problems with BMD`s - which is very frustrating when you are looking for a name from a missing quarter - where you have to select the quarter, then first letter of surname and then scroll through goodness knows how many pages to get to where you want.

It didn't work for me Elaine, it wouldn't go to page one from page twelve, only page by page.

Thanks Merry - will check my cookies!

It's working just fine for me. Not knowing who you were looking for I just searched on Portsea, ..with relationship ..Pauper. That got me into the records and I was able to change the number in the box to 1,.. to get the first page of workhouse records. Gwyn

Can I ask another question - for those that it seems to be working OK for - are you using Internet Explorer as your browser and for those its not working for - are you using Mozilla Firefox. Because -. I can get it to work on Explorer (which I don´t usually use) but cant get it to work on Mozilla (which I do use!!)

Elaine

Elaine Report 12 Aug 2006 13:45

am using Ancestry UK. I think it might have something to do with Mozilla as I have just realised I can get it to work on Explorer. Why its changed over the last week or so I have no idea.

Elaine - I hate to have to tell you this, but (using ancestry uk) I can get straight from image 12 to image 1 (by typing the 1 in the box and pressing enter) And I'm on FireFox. (the fact the advanced image viewer doesn't work in FF is a separate issue which annoys me to bits). Jools

Am on 1.0.7. Is yours a freebie version - if so might go and update to see if that helps.
