Hi 2338 Barry Edward O'Meara A.S. 62 F 25 Feb 1804. Dismissed the Service for being second in a duel at Messina,1807.He then became A.S.Royal Navy. S., R.N., on board H.M.S. Bellerophon when it conveyed Napoleon to St. Helena. He became surgeon to Napoleon. Having quarrellld with Sir Hudson Lowe, the Governor of St. Helena, he was sent home to England . He identified himself with Napoleon's intersts in his quarrel with Lowe, and on his return to England was dismissed the Navy, 2 Nov 1818 for having written a letter to the Admiralty insinuating that Napoleon's life was unsafe in Lowe's hands. He took a prominent part in politics, espousing the cause of Queen Caroline, and supported Daniel O'Connell. He wrote many pamphlets against Sir Hudson Lowe and a book Napoleon in Exile or A Voice from St. Helena, which ran through five editions and gave rise to great controversy. O'Meara was proved to have overstated his case born 1786. He was the grandfather of Kathleen O'Maera, the Irish biographer and novelist died London 3 June 1836. Wow what life hope that helps Laura
