Hi Merry i have that one and also A/M/J 1905 George Clarke Croydon Surrey 2a 727 so not sure which one it is that is why i think i am best to get the marriage cert to confirm who Gerges parents are and then i can put that on the request when i order the birth cert. Thanks again jen

If anyone in the family knows when any of these aunts and uncles of your grandfather died, their death registrations may help, esp if they died after 1969. The death informant would have been asked the date of birth of the dec'd. Merry

Ah right!!! Got it! You really should get the marriage cert for George Richard Clarke. This will tell you his father's name and occupation and should help you to know that you have the right birth cert - you can order certs with a checking point of the father's name to help you with this. Do you know his exact date of birth? Merry

Oppps appology Merry i think i may of confused you. My grandad was born in 1928 in Croydon surrey and the address i am looking at is the address where his father lived when he was born. His father is called George Richard Clarke born 1905 his sisters are Charlotte and Mary. I know that Mary is younger but i am unsure how much younger. I think i need to sit down and write a list of questions to ask my grandad. Sorry if i have confused you i really am. I think it may just be easier and just order the 2 birth certs i have found for George or would it be easier to order his marriage cert 1st and then get his mothers maiden name and go round it that way? I've looked at all the Dorothy Clarkes livng in Surrey and viewed the names of the siblings. None with a sister Charlotte (I picked these two names because they are probably the least common of those you gave) Were all the children older than your granddad? Merry

So, he's still alive then???!!!!! Do you think he might know what the parents, or father of this Clarke brood did for a living? Even if he can't remember the father's first name, this still might help. Merry

Surrey has something like 130 parishes,(Croydon has between 40 and 50 subdistricts.) Thats one heck of a lot of possibilties when you look at the county as a whole. Glen

I tried the spelling Holmwood, but there are no numbered properties and they are dotted about all over Surrey (probably including the area Bernadette mentioned earlier!) Merry

I've found Homewood Road on Ancestry 1901. The residents at 31 are Jonathan E Tyler (48) and his wife, Ann (49) and a whole lot of children. Merry

Hi Merry i have been reading through my grandads book that he did for me of his family and he can remember living there when he was born in 1905 and his family had lived there for about 7 years. I know he had an Aunt Dorothy, Uncle Ernie, Uncle George, Aunt Charlotte, Aunt Mary. This is all i know so far so was trying to find out what Clarke lived there in 1901 so i could call my grandad and say hey is this who you meant lived there, and see if when i say the names it will ring any bells with him. I did an address search on TNA version of the 1901 census. You used to be able to pick up the refs for the page and then, with a sub to Ancestry, view the page., but (not surprisingly) this facility has been withdrawn!! Merry

But there's no Charlotte Clark(e) in Mitcham! Do you know anything else at all about these Clarkes?? Were they married or single? Children or elderly? Related to each other? Any ideas?? Place of birth? Merry

There is a Holmwood Road in Chessington which also runs into Ewell - I guess that might be the area you are looking for. Hope this helps. Bernadette
