The lastest brain ache is - Ellen Elizabeth Dodd b 1885 Birmingham, and trying to locate her family. Well her birth certificate states father as Alfred and his occupation is a polisher, she was married in 1903 to Harry Baker, her age is 18 and Harry is 20, the marriage was in St Gabriels Parish Birmingham. I have search IGI, freecen and 1901 free index search to know avail, can you surgest anything that may help me on my way before i crack up. thank you........

What are you trying to find? The IGI is not comprehensive and nor is Freecen. 1901 census is notorious for mistranscriptions - about 80% of the family members I've found on it have been wrongly transcribed in some way, or their place of birth has. Are you wanting to find Ellen or her father in 1901? She would probably be living away from home, in service perhaps. Have you checked to see if her father died?

I know just how you feel, I'm trying to locate details on my fathers parents. Unfortunately I now longer speak to my father (his choice) so can't get any details from him. All I do know is that my grandmother was Deeney Cooke born 3/3/1933 and she married my grandfather who is called either George or Thomas Bancroft. I know that they had 2 children my father Stephen Bancroft born 16/06/1953 and my Aunt Lynn Morley (nee Bancroft) born in 1955 not sure of the exact date and she died 1986. I could scream I'm getting that frustrated. Hope things get better in your search. Cara-Deeney Bancroft

Cara You should be able to get the info you need from the GRO bmd indexes. Then you can use the refs to order certificates to help in your search.

What was her mother's name? You say you have her birth cert......... Reg

Unknown Report 22 Sep 2006 22:41

If you only have father's details from her marriage cert I would recommend getting the birth cert. It will give you the mother's name which may help in tracing her on the census, as well as an address, or at least a narrower address than just a registration district. Once you have mother's name, you can find her marriage to Alfred, if they were married, which may give you their ages - again helping to find them on the census.
