Hi, Everyone seems to be quite knowledgable about OPR's in Scotland, and like Julie I have hit a brick wall in the same period around 1750 Can someone please tell me how you find Monumental Inscriptions.....I am looking for Alexander Pullar married to Mary Clark. Their first child was born in Little Dunkeld,Perth 1764 I can't find a marriage or death for either Alexander or Mary. Maybe a Monumental Inscription will give m a clue. I would be grateful for ANY help or advice. Thanks. Margaret

Hi Kathy, If you are sure you dont mind doing this for me I would be really grateful. I live in the south of England now, my parents still live in the Moray area but they find it difficult to search through records and I dont like to put them through it. They have helped me out in the past. If there is anything more you need to know I will be quite happy to email you. Thanks Julie

The Qpr on scotlandspeople marriage register don't have any more info on the certificate than whats on scotlandspeople only name of people getting married and date as I have 2 one 1833 and one 1854 and I was thinking they would get better but don't till 1855 upwards

Julie, have you looked through the 'wills' section on Scotland's People, just in case? I am lucky that my pre-civil registration Scots were from Edinburgh, and there are quite a few Edinburgh databases available on Scotsfind at www.scotsfind.org Also, there are wills and / or inventories for quite a few of mine on Scotland's People. Hi Julie I found this site http://www.nbancestry(.)co(.)uk/how.htm and it tells you what you can expect from a OPR death OPR Death Entry You will be very lucky to find an entry in an OPR for the death or burial of your ancestors. If you do, however, the information you can expect to find will be:- Name and age of deceased Cause of death Address :-(

Deaths are limited on OPR, you will have to see if any exist for the area you are looking in. I have to admit I only have one OPR marriage that has both parents names on it, like you say its usually the womans if any.

Hi Willow I have not auctually got the registry, but got date from Scotlands People. The thing is every example of a marriage registry I have seen only gives wifes parent/parents. I am in two minds whether to spend the £10 as I dont think it will tell me any more. The reason I wanted to know about info on death registry is that I have not seen one of those. Julie

Have you ordered their marriage entry from the parish records then?

The information I have is as follows; NAME; Alexander Williamson; WIFE Elspet Sandison DEATH; (Alexander) 6 june 1830 (age 56) Urquhart Moray. birth c 1774 Marriage to Elspet 13 dec 1812 Urquhart Glenmoriston. I need to find his parents so I can carry on. As I said before it is a common name and there was quite a few born around that time. Any help I would be thankful for. Julie

Thanks everybody for the help. The problem I have is that I cannot find a birth marriage or death for this person. I have everything on his wife. I have found a grave inscription, so I know when and where he died, but as it is a common name in that part of Scotland, It will only be guess work. I thought if I could find a death registry for him it might have parents name on there, as the marriage only has her parents. The problem I have is that Scotlands people have no OPR deaths on line. I phoned the local heritage office and they said that the information they have for him has come off the grave inscription I already have. Looks like a brick wall as I, like most people on here will not use guesswork. Julie
