hi i am fairly new to tracing my family, and i appear to be stuck, could anyone please give me some advice.... i have managed to trace back to my grandmother, and have found out her siblings and parents names.....but....how on earth do i trace them? they were both born around 1864, and although i have my gt grand fathers full name, i only have my gt grandmothers christian name........how do i find records of her......i dont know where either of them were born.......and can anyone please tell me, why they were born in one place, but reg in another 100 miles away......it is very confusing....lol..... i just seem to be going round in circles.......and am getting to the point of giving up, because i dont seem to be getting anywhere.... HELP....LOL |

ok...lol... right.... my grandmother was Margaretta Williams......dob..1890...born in Swansea Wales....reg Bristol.... her father was thomas williams....dob 1864 mother was Emma.......dob 1864 would it give me details of margarettas parents on her birth cert? |

You say your grandmother was Margaretta Williams......dob..1890...born in Swansea Wales....reg Bristol.... If she was born in Swansea it is more likely that she would have been registered in Swansea. Are you sure that you have found the correct registration? Her birth certificate will show parents names, including mothers maiden name, and fathers occupation. |

She wasn´t born in Swansea and registered in Bristol. The extract you found is from the 1901 census which says she was born in Swansea but was LIVING in Bristol at the time of the census. This appears to be her birth registration (found by Portland Rose) Name: Margaretta Williams Year of Registration: 1889 Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun DISTRICT: Swansea County: United Kingdom Volume: 11a Page: 797 A copy of her birth certificate will confirm parents names, will give you mothers maiden name (which is probably Bryant) and will give you fathers occupation. With this information you will be able to move back through the earlier censuses. |
